Ahhh great day overall today :D

The good:

Picked out our doeling from Sandra's place, we *sort of* fell in love with a 75% boer 25% nubian doeling ;) OH WELL! so we'll breed her to a Nubian when the time is right, or another milk breed. She's super adorable, sable and white and her name is April. Sandra gives all the doelings names starting with the first letter of their fathers name, so her dads name is Arthur and her name is April :) She's super super super cute and we'll be bringing her home in 12 weeks. We fell in love with her because she was super playful and was jumping all over the place, jumping over other kids and over other moms lying down LOL.

We also sold another puppy today, little Peaches (kind of hilarious considering her mom's name is Peaches, but she's actually named after a tennis star LOL) went today to the county to live with a really nice family, so now we only have 2 left... a boy and a girl. And Gromit ;)

We decided to keep the goats, and we're starting to work with Luna this week... brushing and ground manners kind of stuff. ALSO, as per my horsey search.. I was talking to Leeann about horses and she said why not get a weanling, he/she would be ready to start under saddle when you graduate from university and your mom has loads of experience with babies, and Leeann herself has experience with babies and would love to come over and help out. I've been wanting a gelding, and Leeann knows a lady who breeds GORGEOUS flashy paints a couple roads over that hates geldings/colts and sells off the colts for super cheap. Super bloodlines and great confo, she just hates colts lol. So we're going to look at her babies when foaling is done. I can board out if needed but we can set up a stall in the barn, and have a small paddock for a weanling. I'm going to talk to Daina about it all first but Leeann has a really good point, because we could work on ground manners and all that well before the baby is ready to be backed and everything.

Nothing is set in stone, and I'm not certain I want a weanling yet but its an option we hadn't thought about before :) and since I'll be spending this year taking lessons while in school... I'll be way more confident in the summer with a year of lessons under my belt.

The bad:

Luna was having a mini-fit over her jollyball LOL in the field this afternoon and has twisted/sprained/hurt her pastern on the back right. She's still walking actively, but is obviously a bit too sore to trot. I'm going to hose it down tomorrow morning, as it was getting dark out when it happened but she's grazing and walking around and all that so I'm not real concerned... but as a precaution I'm reschedualing her farrier appointment.

Omg LOL my day is just getting... weirder, I guess. We had a hankering for chili and decided to drive to Foodland and buy some, and on the way back I was doing 60km/hr on the road out of Madoc (UNDER the speed limit which is 80) and I didn't see him until he was literally touching the bumper, but this big white and black dog came down an incline from the right side of the road... I recognized him after I thought about it, the house across the street which has 2 horses and some bison, they are notorious for letting their dogs out to roam and last fall they bought/got a border collie type puppy. He would be a year old now, and I just hit him. Ran right over him with the truck so he's definitely dead, I felt kind of bad for the dog but the people kind of had this coming. It was dark out and I couldn't see him until he was right infront of the light and thus the tire.

Oh well, poor dog but maybe this'll knock it into their thick skulls that they need to keep their dogs penned or take them out for a pee on a LEASH. I'm so sick of swerving or nearly hitting dogs that owners have just let out.

I haven't updated you guys on the renovations in quite a while... not since the day mum's hand went through the floor by the toilet! LOL...

Some new photos...

This is the "snug", kind of like a den.. its right off the bathroom and the living room and it'll be home to a television, desk, futon (or daybed) and all of the video game equipment. It's going to be a warm and snug-gly place to hang out and most importantly a place for Kevin to play video games without disturbing us watching tv ;)

As you can see our house is put together in an interesting way... How it works is we have a stud-framed house with barn board on the inside, between that and the outside siding we just recently found is mortar, we suspect for "insulation". It seems that at one point our entire house was wood sided and the brick portion was given a brick ficade when they had the money! Very cool or what? The dividing wall between the living room and snug is framed with tongue and groove panelling (oldddd) on the bottom and lath and plaster on the top on the living room side only. Just so you know, the window there is in awful condition.. they're 10-12 years old and have no been taken care of so we're having custom windows done for the entire house but we're doing it room by room because its so expensive. They'll have mullions and look somewhat like the original window we have in the kitchen (also coming out).

Mum is outfitted for the job, she *was* wearing a bag as a hat to keep the dust out of her hair too and big huge googles. We spent a good 4 or 5 hours knocking plaster off the wall...

Which is how I ended up with only 4 tomato plants, which are now only 2 because I kind of baked them in the hoop house this morning (got up late). We put the Toms in the bathroom to keep the cat from destroying them and she forgot they were there and when she knocked a big 40lb piece of plaster off the wall it *sort of* fell on top of them and smooshed them. Sighh!

My peas are doing well, we haven't had a lot of rain so they (to me) are a bit stunted, I have another 20ft of peas to plant today!

And a view of the whole garden, this little hill here was all covered in brush and long grass if anyone remembers, I finally got it in me to mow it down LOL I went a little crazy and have been mowing everything ever since. We've now decided that every other Sunday is "garden clean up day" which means the mowers come out and we mow the heck out of the whole property, whipper snip, trim, and so on.

I'm also growing chickens. The little varmints keep digging up my garden, using it as a dust-bathing area. I now have little islands of flowers and most of the bulbs met an untimely end. I'm reworking this garden and we're going to temporarily fence it in until the flowers mature.

As you can see there is a lot of weeding to do LOL.

And the duckies have been lounging here for a few days, they get up in the morning.. get a drink from the little kiddie pool by their house (om nom nom poo water!) and then search for bugs for a couple hours, and then sit here and preen.

We just got back from the dump, after taking half of the drywall/plaster... and it came to 350KG!!! Seriously!

I also took a photo of the back of one of the boards, it seems that between lath and plaster and drywall there was a product called "Gyproc Lath" which is kind of like drywall but on the finish side its got ridges and its plastered like you'd plaster lath&plaster, just obviously it takes less plaster and is less of an art form so it kind of made lath & plaster the DIYers dream!

Spring is here! Weeee!

Peas are looking fantastic, mowing the lawn every freaking week, the crabapple down the driveway is in bloom!

The downside right now? We have 2 of our Miniature Labradoodle puppies left and no calls! I can't believe it! We had a ton of calls not even 3 weeks ago and now we have 2 left and no one is calling or emailing. Extremely annoying and frustrating.

These are the two that are left, a boy and a girl... We just took these photos so I'm hoping that new photos will generate some interest, we're also going to have their 2nd set of shots done this Friday, so that'll mean whoever buys them won't have to put out anymore money until the next set of shots.

Anddd the thing that has made me so happy :)

roundpen.jpg

My roundpen! Its set up in one of my fields, I'm going to move the gate around and I'll be moving Luna to it soon, as soon as I have the fence fixed and the roof on the run-in shelter because we need to bring the truck in to do that.

And because most of us are chicken lovers, some very cute chickens... and some yummy looking EE eggs :) The nestbox is kind of pooey, someone has been sleeping in it and I've cleaned it out now.

Aside from that not much else is happening here, I just wormed the goats a couple days ago and tomorrow I'm going to Toronto to enroll in courses for university in the fall, I've picked most of my courses already... and I even schedualed everything on the little time table so it all fits perfectly so we'll see what happens. I'm super excited for one particular course, "History of Astronomy"

I haven't been on here lately mainly because I've been busy with university prep stuff for the fall plus we've been ripping out and sourcing out things for the bathroom and we've commenced an epic clean up of the property so the whole front of the house is getting a facelift, the fields, and everything is generally just getting uplifted a little.

This is what we've been doing for the house, we've ordered more pickets for the front fence to finish it off and we've finally settled on a paint colour for the front porch posts, siding, and door.

We've also decided to change the porch brackets and add some weight to the bottom of the porch posts with some simple pine trim from Lowes. The trim is caulked and glued and painted as well :)

This is from a distance, we did the one post so far to see how it would look and we love it so much we're going to do the other 2. We need to add another post to the front of the porch as well. The new brackets are NOT up yet, those brackets are the old ones which are just too big. The new brackets are smaller and simpler to keep the emphasis on the bottom of the post and weight the porch.

And close up...

The paint colours are...

Antique White (Main post and brackets)
Pebble Path (Bottom of the post)

The front fence will also be Pebble Path :) I'm so excited, we're hoping to have the place cleaned up before my dad comes home next weekend!

OMG, you have been so busy!! First off the garden looks great. All cleaned up and tidy. Second off, I am not a horse person so I know nothing about round pens, but that one you have sure is pretty!!

Your house is coming along. So much done. I am sure your dad will be very happy when he gets home. He's away for work right?

Anyways, I have chickens growing in my garden as well. At least I used to. Darn things scratch it all up and loose my seed. Or maybe they eat them. :idunno I made a play pen for them yesterday. I think It will be easier to contain the chickens than the garden. Well, maybe. My Roo flew the coop. He stayed out of the veggies but still. :barnie

Good to hear how your doing!! Have a great day.

gina

ps that pup is the cutest ever. I I lived closer I would snatch him up. :love

Haha both puppies ended up going this week. We just have our Gromit left now.

I had to fence in my garden LOL and the whole thing needs planting up even more because the chickens either killed some plants or they died off over the winter. I have lots of mulching to do, ugh, we have blackberries and raspberries planted behind one section of the garden fence and it needs to be scalped there, landscape fabriced and mulched really well.
