:hugs :hugs I feel your pain - my oldest DS is set on going into the Marines - he is only 16 now so I still have time, but just thinking about what is going on with our military and the thought that my boy will be in it scares me even now.

oh geez. well i wont tell you to let it go.

but i will tell you that i, for one, am VERY proud of your young man. not that it makes you feel any better - any momma would be upset. but i'm very grateful that he is going to make a better life for all of us. his service means something to everyone in this country.

its a heavy load for a momma, for sure.

sending hugs
:)

The military choice is a hard one for everyone left behind.

We worry and fret and pray. Sure there is the fear and the danger involved, but a lot of it is just not knowing where they are and how they are from day to day.

My SIL is probably career Navy. He has been in 9 years so far and has many more to go. It is very hard on my daughter and hard on the rest of us as well. He has been on lots of missions where there is radio silence for months at a time. We are not even sure where in the world he is at since on a ship they can travel all over. We just have to get on with life and wait.

Even harder that that is when he thinks he will be able to take leave and come home for a visit then for what ever reason can not come.

No, I am not going to say it is easy. I AM going to say it is far safer than I expected. My SIL works for one of the best, most technologically advanced machines in the world. He cost them money to maintain and train and if nothing else they like to protect their investment. Being military builds confidence, self esteem and really DOES turn boys to men.

I know you won't quit worrying, but be proud that he made the choice. That pride did not set in with me until the first time my SIL came home on leave and we took them out to eat. Some old man approached our table, saluted my SIL who was in uniform, gave him words of praise and us words of thanks and bought us all a meal. I was floored. Without men like your son we would cease to be free.
