Noobie, once in a while people will ask me if we plan to eat our chickens. The answer is always no, BUT....only because I don't know how to process a chicken nor do I think my landlord would approve. I would prefer to eat them over any store bought chicken free range or not because I know that they have lead happy peaceful little lives. A happy chicken is healthy chicken.

I do have one henny that I have nicknamed Thunder Thighs......

Well, Dace, you learn something new everyday. You'll get around to when you're ready. As for your landlord, what he/she doesn't know, won't hurt 'em.

Thunder Thighs, love it!

I swear when I get animals for meat, whatever they might be, I'm naming them like Bee did. T-Bone, Jerky, BBQ and the like. Just to keep that in front of us.

But I'm more likely to eat if it's organic. It tastes better and I don't picture my cells being poisoned and my brain failing because the cells all die.

Don't you all do that? :hide

That's a serious question. I never really thought about it til I read this but I guess maybe everyone doesn't become one with their meal.
I try not to. But I'm especially prone to that kind of thinking when eating at someone else's house, then I mentally slap myself for food snobbery and try to honestly, graciously thank them for the meal :D

What is it Joel says? Happy pigs are healthy pigs are tasty pigs? Something along those lines? Maybe I made that up. Either way, its true.

Food should not be treated like dirt. Heck we shouldn't treat dirt the way some of these animals are being treated.
I completely agree! The first 5 years of marriage, my in-laws hog farmed. All hogs got loaded up the morning of slaughter. If they were loaded and then left overnight, the stress actually caused the meat to taste bad.

I want to be respectful of all people's views on meat eating and vegetarianism. It's so personal. I do feel, however, that we should at least SEE how the meat we eat is raised and killed, and then decide if we are okay with that, if we'd like to find a more humane way or pass on meat altogether.

I'm thrilled that my customers are willing to pay 2.5 times higher prices on chickens and eggs simply because of that one factor. Well, and that the eggs are actually more loaded with good stuff because of all their ranging.
