I used to weight 280+ pounds. Now I am down to 207. I am 6' tall and my eventual goal is 190. I lost weight the wrong way and the right way. The healthiest thing I ever did was change to a diet low in carbohydrates and learn about the importance of natural healthy fats.

If you (or your family members) suffer from obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, etc... I highly recommend reading "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes. It isn't a diet book, but a book that explores the history of dietary advice....and where it all went so horribly wrong.

QA there is a great site for whole food idea's - whfoods.org that give you great tips about food and idea's for meal plans. It also breaks down the nutritional contents of food so you know what vitamins and minerals you are getting.

I'm with you QA-gogogo!!! I lost 50 lbs on Weight Watchers about 5 years ago and I've gained back every pound and then some. I'm going to try to use the rest of my time off this summer to get back on track, both making healthy food choices and scheduling time to move.
I'm reading Nourishing Traditions right now which is helping with the food choices. I've made a schedule for DS and I that blocks in time for me to at least get on my treadmill. At this point if I exercise for 10 or 15 minutes a day, it's more than I've been doing! I did go to yoga class last week and I think my mom will watch my son for me on Friday mornings so I can keep going.
So, enough about me! I'll be following you and supporting too!
And for me a big part is not sitting here for long periods of time too.
So hopefully you'll be seeing less of me in more ways than one!

One of the changes I am going to make for myself and my kids is whole wheat bread. Ernie will only eat white, but I know right now, if I eat it, my kids will eat it. So, going to make that switch immediately. I actually like whole wheat, so it won't bother me to switch.

Breakfast today: 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 slices of toast, sliced banana with pineapple chunks, and a glass of orange juice.

If it helps, great, but please keep in mind that there isn't that much difference between commercial whole wheat and white bread. If you are grinding your own grains, that is different. But just buying whole wheat instead of white made no difference for me. I also switched to brown rice. The weight still kept piling on.

I have a friend who manages a bakery outlet store. I went in thee once to buy a loaf of whole wheat bread. Out of the several dozen varieties, only ONE did not have high fructose corn syrup in it.

Quail this is WHAT you ate this morning? Why not knock it down...this is alot of calories for one meal. 1 egg, 1 link, 1 toast, 1/2 nanner and 1/2 glass OJ.

Remember one thing, it is calories in and calories out when it comes down to it on a basic level. We must cut cals by 3500 per week to lose 1 lb.

If you went into a calorie counter and plugged in that meal, it would be alot for ONE meal definitely.

don't get me wrong, not bashing in any way, but you have to find a calorie count and stick to it.

basically it is like this-----you WANT to weight 160-----then it is 160 X 10.
so if you eat 1600 per day only, then you should eventuallly hit that goal weight of 160

All calories are not created equally. A calorie of protein and a calorie of carbohydrates react totally different in the body.

A carbohydrate is a measure of combustion. The human body does not combust food, it digests it. What happens after that digestion process involves an array of hormones that effect fat burning and storage.

If weight loss were a simple matter of cutting calories, I would be a twig. Here is some of the science and history on this topic.
