It happened! Of course, on the coldest night of the year thus far ... negative 10. Oh well.

Hubby had just gotten home and was getting dinner when he heard a hard bleat on the baby monitor that linked to the garage. He ran out, poked his head back in to holler for me ... it's time! I grabbed my camera, threw on some shoes (wish I'd put my boots on!) and sprinted (not easy to do with my leg, which I'd turned again earlier that day on the ice outside). Just in time to see the first being born at 6:43. Brown and white, girl, that my kid her named Spot because she has a spot on her back. By the time she was licked off (about 20-30 minutes), the second came. Girl, pure white with a pink nose. Almost immediately after, the third came, black and brown, boy.

Wow. Mama still looks big enough to have another in there but by 9 p.m. she'd started expelling the afterbirth so we're sure it's just the three.

We're keeping Spot (the first). Probably selling the 2nd, white, girl, Ghost and the 3rd, brown/black, boy.

I'll post more on my blog later.

Hubby's out getting a space heater for the garage. They're using too many calories to stay warm, even at 50 degrees under the heat lamps.

Meanwhile, here's a pic of mama with her three babies:

Actually, not so much. Her first two times, she had 4. This time 3. But she's about 6 years old so it's probably just that she's getting older. Still, she's a great mom.

Here's a pic of them last night, shortly after giving birth. Notice how they are still wet ... not dry and fluffed up.

Weren't yours born on the same day?

When I checked on the trio, they were all jumping and bouncing around. Love this part! We have some kinda big tree stumps buried under snow. Gonna dig them out this afternoon and put them in the kennels. Give them something to jump on besides the mama!

Also will open the garage door in another hour or two so they can experience some sunlight. Expected high today is 43 ... positively balmy!!!

Planning on trading our buck for a 2 month-old buckling if anyone in this area has one (from a good dairy line). Keeping one doeling from this month's kidding, and plan to breed all of our girls October 2012 so need a different buck from a good dairy line.

Yes, Monday. I know, I can't believe they are already about 2 days old. Don't you just love that new-goat-baby bounce?!?! And smell. And the little kitten mewing sounds they make.

:love
