Had mine operated on today. I had a torn meniscus. I really wish I could do something for you to relieve the pain. I'll be praying that a way will open for you to have it taken care of. :hugs

Oh ow! Take care of yourself. Glad you're on the road to recovery.

Oh a different note, Hubby and I are doing better. I'm just accepting that he's not a self-starter and I need to control all the schedules, finances, etc. Now that I've accepted that, things are calmer here. On the surface anyway. I don't really like being the only adult but I'm working to accept it and move on.

Hubby's sister has become a real itchy-poo. Hubby deciding to stop his association with all of them because of how they treat him, his mom included. Appears as if my son and I are his only real family. That's ok. So we talked about it and decided it's almost time to adopt. Been discussing for 3 years when I started menopause. Just gonna get the house in order and the new paddocks and chicken houses built, and our orchards, etc planted. Oh, and the house decorated. Then we'll start proceedings for siblings who need a home. My kid is looking forward to having someone to play, er ... hang with. He's a teen. He "hangs"!!

How old are you looking for? Just make sure if they have any problems, you're told about them.

Between 6 or 7 and 11. Be nice to be at least 1 girl.... was willing to do all boys but hubby wants a daughter. Needs to like animals, quiet time, music, movies and a must, reading/books. (We're readers). Would be nice if at least one likes to cook and/or garden (to help me)! All willing to do their own chores (just like my bio kid). OK to homeschool OR go to local country school. Minor health problems ok. I mean, look at all of my teen's problems!

Yes, will insist on full disclosure, and all bio-parental rights released.

Edited because it sounded like I wanted a chef! :hide

Forgot to mention that in an effort to afford all the things we need to do (finish perimeter fence, goat paddocks, new chicken runs, plant orchards and nut trees, redo kitchen, redo huge room in basement to be kid-fun-friendly, redo front porch to have a handicapped railing, and decorate whole house plus adoption fees for 2-3 kids), I'm starting back up my publishing company. So ... all of you aspiring writers, I'm looking for short novels (5,000 - 10,000 words each) or non-fiction reference books on self-sufficient topics or homeschooling topics, or "cheat-sheets". E-Mail for writers guidelines.

I hire 3 neighbor teens for handyman work. We're doing so much building, and with my disabilities, aches and pains, I just can't do them by myself, and Hubby works. My teen has no upper body strength. So yesterday, these kids came over and in 6 hours, built a 6x6x4 chicken coop (for our bachelor chickens and chicks once they are ready to leave mom) and an attached 8x6x4 goat house (for our boys). It's huge, sturdy enough to survive massive wind storm last night, and should last years and years and years. But by the time they left, I couldn't move. Paid them, came in, disrobed, and crawled in to bed. Got up to milk the goats, then back to bed until this morning.

After the total misery yesterday after my helpers left (then I disrobed and crawled into bed, not moving again until milking time, then back to bed), I decided I really needed to change. Almost everything. I've got that new chicken/goat house, we're planting lots of fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and herbs this year, we have healthy home-raised chickens and eggs to eat, goat milk to drink and make cheese ... so I need to find a way to be a healthier overall person. Once I lose the weight, my knees will be healthier.

Decisions!

Started today with a haircut. Had to go into town anyway to get paint for the chicken/goat house so I had 11 inches cut off my hair. I'd forgotten I have curly hair! Tomorrow I'm gonna add a rinse to get out the gray. Up my self-esteem. Hubby's b-day is Saturday so once this weekend is done (special meals, cake, frozen yogurt), I'll go back to a diet that I did in 2010 where I lost 99 pounds. Yep, put 65 pounds back on since then, but I really ate healthy, from my garden that year, exercycled (but I can't do that any more because of my knee), and ate a lot of meat. Plus was gluten-free.

Changing my outlook and how I feel about myself, my family, my future ... it helps that we can actually afford to work on the property, buy reference books (esp at the thrift store!) and get all of these long-term food producing plants. So far to go but I've come even further.

My life is filled with selling chickens and goats, building new housing, setting up fencing, planning the garden, training the pup, housework, writing, teaching my kid and keeping him safe. But now ...

Let me go back to yesterday morning. Early. I'm getting old so was up at 12:45 to visit the little (old) girls room. After, I went into the hallway to check the thermostat because my nose was frozen. I couldn't believe this but I heard moaning from my kid's room. I stopped at the door, hoping it was just a teenage boy thing, if you know what I mean, but it sounded like him coming out of a seizure. And he was. Still on the bed but still.

Now to this morning. We're expecting about 2 feet of snow, starting in about an hour and ending Saturday morning. Scrambling around this morning, doing chores so we could get to town and get a few gallons of drinking water, library books, and some other things. Extra hay to the goats. Extra feed to the chickens. Water buckets filled to the top. My kid is always in charge of the water but this morning I had 2 flakes of hay in my hands to follow him into the boy goat pen. I couldn't get through. My kid was just standing there, hand on latch with the gate slightly open, and a gallon of water in the other. I asked him several times if he was going in, then started calling his name when he didn't move or answer. Finally I dropped the hay on the ground and shook him. He did, after 15-20 seconds, get out of it, and with an incredibly intense headache.

It's called an "absence seizure", and as far as I know, it's his first. But you know, now that I think about it, there have been many instances where I've called him and when I look around a corner, he's just standing there then a few seconds later, he's back to himself. I wish I could watch him every second but I just can't. Plus he would resent me for hovering.

Luckily we already had a neuro checkup scheduled for next week. Might have to tweak his meds again.

Thank goodness he was with me and not at a school or doing something dangerous.

thats the kind of seizures i have...
i also have seizures like this but all the muscles in my body ust seem to lock up...those last a little longer but are otherwise a similar premise
it was very anoying at first because people used to (and those that dont knwo me stil do) think i was just ignoring them, being ignorant or day dreaming...most people dont take absense seizures seriously but they can be very disruptive...they are however VERY easy to miss as they do typically only last 15-20 seconds and do jus tlook like youve spaced out.
least youve got a doc on the situation

thanks.

pink: how long have you had them? do you take meds .. if so, are they under control?

see, i hadn't really seen many seizures since his first last april and his second last may. the only ones that continued, that i knew about, were the simple partials. now with the one yesterday morning and the "new" one today, i'm tearing up again. i realize these aren't really life threatening especially because with absence seizures he won't be falling down, but how do people who constantly "space out" have normal lives?
