So, I recently decided I was goin to geve needle felting a try. Hmmm, I know..I need LOTS of practice. Day one...broke 2 needles...and only bled once! Not too bad! :D However, the end product looks like a 5 yr old might have made it...but, its a start. I need to find something to use for eyes....Oh, and before you try to guess...LOL Its a Pomeranian..I made from my poms fur! :/

That is too cute! No, it is far better than a five year old could do....or should I say, I'd like to meet that genius five year old!

Thank you. I have to work on facial features...and find a way to make eyes.

I like it Yes, its rough, but still just as darling!

On facebook, I was lamenting the issue of tearing apart some $1 wool garments and trying to "felt" them in hot water and then dryer. I'm not terribly pleased so far....

Eyes are difficult, but build them up from the base. A tiny little dob of white or off white, then add the color on top of that. roll like 3 or 4 strands of fiber between your fingers - then tac it on with one or two pokes. (depending on how big the whole sculpture is.

Don't be scared, you can pull it off if it doesn't look right. You can "tac" the little dab of white on, and then kinda fold it into itself with the needle and tac it down further till its small enough.

You can add a "lid" over the eye when the eye ball is done, to make an eye lid lay down some fiber on the mat, poke around like a U shape, tacking the fiber gently to the mat, then fold one side over and felt again with the needle, then pull it off the mat, don't poke the needle too far into the mat - it will create a fuzzy side. You can smooth off the fuzzy side by using your needle at a very sharp angle once youve made the lid. Kinda sliding the needle to smooth and then gently poking it into the fibers. (hard to explain without showing you)

Leave one side un-felted or messed with - so you'll have a eye lid with a neat side and the fluffy side, use the fluff to felt the lid to the face. Spread it out so it blends in.
