They were huge, and gorgeous birds! Plucked like a heritage bird though!

And I think they make up random names too. It's interesting to see the carcass on the ones other people raise so we see all the breeds without investing money in trying them!

There's an AGH boar for sale near me for fairly cheap and I'm restraining myself from emailing them. We like checking out pig breeds too, lol

Haha they are really popular here. Are yours registered? I could get big money for registered ones from out of New England. We have a minor inbreeding issue here among the AGH population.

Mine aren't registered - even though the gal I bought my females from had what she called a "lineage history" on them. Wasn't of much interest to me as I was supposedly buying for my own use. Didn't know the little buggers breed like rabbits, lol. How much were they asking for him?

I think it was $140, and he's registered. Lol yes pigs do breed like rabbits. Helps you understand why the wild boar population expands faster than hunters can take them out!

Well my other new doe had a date with a buck yesterday. The lady is at a craft fair all weekend and has to tattoo them and get paperwork ready and I can go get them. She never tattooed them as kids because she kept them. I don't envy her having to do it on 2 year old does, lol! The second one hasn't been bred before so it's a little bit of a risk but she's healthy so she should be ok. Let's hope!

I asked DH if we could do the pig this weekend because next week is insanely busy, and next weekend we have to get the new girls. Plus we have to put up a separate pen for them because I don't need them in with Clifford. He's going to try to make that happen. He's working a long day today and they're trying to finish the job in one day so maybe he'll be around part of tomorrow to get the freezer done, then we're good to go.

Oh geeze - I wouldn't want to tattoo them at that age either. Is she doing ears or tail webs? A lot of folks around here have started using the implanted chips on their goats for shows. So much easer than wrestling a stinky buck to check his ears!

Hope ya get the pig done this weekend!

She does ears. I thought you had to have the tattoos, no? That's pretty cool to use the chips. Although then it makes you wonder if your goats are being tracked lol.

Saturday is DD's birthday. She won't care if we spend an hour or two getting the pig hanging, but then she needs to be entertained lol.
