Holy Canoli - that's scary! I hear the coyotes almost every night across the road in the big pasture. They're close! Thank goodness for big, scary dogs!

You could have DH start peeing around the perimeter, lol. Isn't that supposed to keep predators away?

It's that time of year, the predators are hungry.

True. With all the snow it's even harder.

Driving thru the West several yrs ago -- out in Colorado/Wyoming, etc. I commented to DH that they sure had TALL and STRONG hay enclosures. :idunno We don't have elk or moose in our area so it was strange to see. Then we were told about the huge herds of HUGE animals that were looking for feed all winter. :ep Never thought about that. What you hear about are the bear, wolves, coyotes taking livestock. Forage is at risk in those areas. LOL, they never have round bales sitting out.

My male dog pees everywhere, but he's neutered so maybe it doesn't work lol. At least we can shoot coyotes. The BIL wants to do a coyote hunt so DH told him come on over! They've never come in like that before, the bobcat or the coyote. Usually it's just bears, deer and foxes. Though we had a moose in our yard once, that was fun!

It was actually kind of scary because we think he had brain worm. He was acting weird, DH had to pretty aggressively move him along.

DH had a friend in high school who honked at a moose standing in the middle of the road.... And then had to move his little truck along as fast as it would go in reverse because Mr Moose didn't take so kindly to being challenged and charged him lol. I love moose... from a distance!

They're actually probably the most dangerous thing you'll meet in the woods up here. Except maybe a mama bear with cubs. Everything else avoids you, unless it has rabies lol.

I am not thrilled with all the predator action with Charlotte due in 5 days. Not thrilled at all.

We used to occasionally stay in from recess b/c there would be moose hanging around in the playground. a few years ago, my neighbor took a photo of Mama and baby moose in my front yard. Baby was about 30' from my front door. Mama's feet sunk into the lawn about 10". Baby, about 1/2 as much.

We had to do that on occasion too! The school was right near a moose popular swamp.

Ah TSC has chicks already! Feels like spring!! I'm not buying anything but I am going to check and see what the feed store is offering this year. I think I might like some australorps and marans. We'll have chicks hatch hopefully, but we need more hens. Those will be doms, Cornish, dom/Cornish and dom/orp. I am curious what a dom/orp ends up like. That'll be interesting (if they cooperate ). My kids eat so many eggs, I just need more hens!

Oh yea - I wasn't thinking about that and I've gotta say that my mama pigs are not really protective...they're so laid back. But I don't know how they'd be with a real predator instead of the person who brings their food. However, I have lost baby pigs to a bobcat before Cowboy was able to access the pasture they were in. I think they're just so fast - in and out with a pig in their mouth. Doesn't take much.
