I echo FEM's thoughts here Hmmmmmm Well, I hope DH learned! That was a scary enough lesson.

Baymule, congrats on the chicks! If the rooster did his job, the hens would lay fertile eggs for a couple of weeks still, so if you're ready to set more, pie him.

It's warm here today! Went for a long walk this morning and came back roasting. But it was lovely. I saw so much timber along the road, big and small pieces. Wish I had a fireplace or stove already! I fully intend to NOT spend €500 on heating again this winter (and that was just for oil)

Right now 1 Euro equals 1.10 US Dollar, so €500 is $550.

Well.... I spend $1500/year on wood pellets and that doesn't include the electricity to power our boiler and blower. And our house is only about 1000 sq ft.:hit

Ouch…. I'm terrible about paying for wood. I'd rather collect it, saw it into logs, chop it up, even if it takes time. I am lucky though, there is so much wood to collect here and I have the time to do so. My only problem is in this house, I have nothing to burn it in :( My next house will hopefully have a fireplace/stove. Keep that going all day and keep the doors and windows closed as much as possible and the house will stay comfortable (thank goodness for mild winters too).

Mild winters... Wonder what those are like?

Yes woodstoves are huge, I hope you're able to have one in your next place also! And space for livestock, you need that too!

It "never" snows here! ;)

I'm waiting for some homeowners to get in touch about a possible rental property that has a nice piece of land with it. I don't know if that will be included though, but I'm sure negotiations can happen.

Fingers, toes and eyes crossed! I went for a walk this morning out to the house. Just to go dream and wish. It's an amazing place and the location is something you have to see to believe :) If all goes well and this does pan out for me, I'll share pics.

I definitely need more! lol A better house and more space. I want to garden and get some livestock, even if it's just a few more chickens and some ducks, but animals would be wonderful.
