Oh and one more thing......just take a peek at how many new gun laws have been proposed by his administration. That in and of itself is a direct attack on the 2nd amendment of our constitutional rights.
And here I thought it was Congress who proposed laws, not the President's administration. I think I need to brush up on our political structure again.

I will never equate gun safety with a violent wrenching away of our political rights. I was born into a gun-owning, hunting family and married into another. That does not mean that we need to do WHATever we want with guns, HOWever we want to. I'm sick to death of gun fans acting like they are about to become part of a dictator society when anybody proposes any sort of control on guns.

Now, maybe somebody proposed turning them all in, melting them down and using them to build parts for cars. Maybe I missed that one. If so, then I would have to agree that you're right.

Facts please. I'm a little confused. HIS administration would be The President and his cabinet.

I was always under the impression that Congress proposed and passed legislation. You must be talking about some of the proposed bills that have been circulating since Bush was in office. The bills that will never go anywhere because it would be political suicide to pass them. The bills that are proposed to show that certain congressmen are getting serious about gun control after someone goes on a rampage and everyone says "How could that happen?"

A direct attack on the 2nd amendment would be abolishing militias. The 2nd amendment doesn't say anything about gun control one way or the other.

Sorry that's just another right wing talking point with no substance at all.
Big Daddy, for the sake of simplification, This "administration" OWNS the house and the senate..........
HR45 was snuck into an already existing IRS law, in an attempt to end run the 2nd amendment....

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Show me in this document were it says the government HAS the right to control private gun ownership. It doesn't. It guarantees people to right. Therefore the government can NOT constitutionally, control gun ownership in any way shape or form. Seems pretty simple and basic to me.

the right to bear arms?
that is the BIG zero respect for consitutional rights.
WOOF!
not good enough for me.
Presidents have done much worse in the past and it was allowed by the citizens. In reality, it is probably too late to change much of the illegal growth of government that has occurred to-date. Its analogous to closing the door after the horses have bolted from the barn.

I love guns, have many. I want MORE gun control also.
We are not talking banning hunting rifles and all guns. We are talking about common sense control to keep handguns out of stupid hands.

The Constitution gives "basics" from times long past. The 2nd amendment gave the citizens the right to bear arms to protect themselves against infringement of a new government, a new country, a new nation.

In context that it was written, YOU MUST bring it up to current date. You can not use a statement from centuries ago to modern times. While we must keep the basic right, we must update to current times. Gun control is necessary as I see it.

Don't worry, our hunting rifles and such are going no where. Our handguns are going nowhere any time soon. BUT the control to keep it out of criminal hands etc. is very important.

No, it will become the North American Union, though, along with Mexico and Canada. And so many will just let it happen, the shock when it does would be almost funny, if it wasn't so sad.

If Obama owns the Congress, why is he having such a hard time with his health care reform?

Show me where it says "No regulation of ownership to keep guns out of the hands of criminals shall ever be allowed". I Don't see it.

Bush is gone now. He was the one trying to do that. Since he's gone he doesn't matter anymore. At least that's what I was told.

The fact is the North American Union has been in the works since Clinton, and it will happen.

Morelcabin--Can I point out that you started this thread with a huge list of apparently subversive ways the president was undermining our influence of parents? In fact, this entire thread was so apparently controversial that it disappeared for a few days. Now that you have read the speech, you say "I thought that was a great speech!"

Yikes!

Maybe there would be a lot less division and strife in this county if people would read things first before getting all up in arms based on the blogs, forums and opinions of others before actually reading the material themselves.

As for the message of the speech, it strikes me as ironic that right-winged folks would have a big problem with a speech speaking to personal responsibility and hard work. I thought Obama was all about people "sucking off the gov't tit," so to speak. Egad! It turns out he will be encouraging our children to work hard!

You would think it would be the all-for-welfare liberals who would be keeping their kids home from school...
QUOTE MORELCABIN "You all *might* want to pay attention to this...*it could be nothing*, but it is indeed strange that no one was told about this. He is using the schools to do it, and *who really knows what he has to say*. The children are apparently going to be prepped for this speach from the president as well. There *seem* to be some fishy things about this"

Yup, I did definitely write that:>) And a few days later they came out with the speech, which, once read, was very good. I wanted to know where other people stood on this. I also posted (3rd post) an article that wasn't so left winged about the whole issue, so in actuality I wasn't taking sides. I was fishing for more info is all.

Well, we all have our political opinions. What I'm concerned with is that the media threw this out there for the right and the left to chew on and they fell for it. Fighting over this issue for the past two weeks...it's a shame people don't realize what's going on here.

The media runs this country, more than Obama and more than our own local governments. They steer the wheel and we are all just along for the ride. I knew this would happen as soon as they hollered that Obama wants to know how the kids can help him.
