Well that just sucks.

I suspect that young couple has a lot to learn and it is going to mostly be the hard way

Uggghhh... it seems the problem with neighbors like that is even if their dog did go "missing" they'd just get another one. Well, maybe the fence will be a blessing in disguise later on down the road.

And while I'm thinking of it, did I miss the story of how you got rid of the daylilies? Or is that one for a later rainy day?

Sunshine & smiles to you!

Our dogs don't listen either... they're great at obedience drills, do agility pretty well, but no matter what when the neighbours donkey starts braying, or the chickens make noise... the dogs totally forget what the word 'come' means... and that's why they are NEVER off leash or off their tie-outs when we're out in the yard.

Someday I hope they learn, we still practise regularly (like every day with a 50 foot lead)... and they are great as long as there are absolutely no distractions.

I would never expect my neighbour to fence their yard because of MY dogs... but then I would never let my dog go loose without 100% feeling that it was going to immediately come back when I called.

I am just researching fencing. For my goats. In my already fenced yard! We just don't feel ok with minimum fencing. They are little now and probably cannot get out, but I don't want to find out when they are big enough to get over one of our fences the hard way. I can just see it now. 2 goats wandering down the street nibbling on the neighbors' prize roses.

We won't get a little dog, because it could get under our existing fence.
Our dog is well trained and free to run in our fenced yard most of the time. When she leaves the fenced area, she is on a leash!!!
I wouldn't dream of letting her of the leash. Although I have let her loose at a friends house. But then again, my dog listens. And I didn't just let her run loose and go inside the house. I stayed there and watched what she was up to. Actually it was sort of a test ;) and she passed. She had no intention of leaving my side. Good dog!

It is all about responsible dog ownership. People who cannot control their dogs, probably won't make good parents either.

So annoying, that you are the one who has to shell out the $$ to fence their dog out!!

thanks everybody!

well we bushwacked all day, made the best guess we could on the property line, and got a lot done. those stupid neighbors were over there drinking and being VERY loud....so now i'm even more irritated then before..they are stupid and loud. sheesh! i almost ran around and scared the guineas so they'd stand there and shriek! ha!

tomorrow we'll have to get more fence as we spent most of the day cutting thru the bramble.

and

we most likely will have to do a survey b/c from what we can tell they have spilled their camp way over the line. we tromped around looking for the pin - while they laughed at us - and couldnt even remotely find it. then their stupid dog came over again.

good times.

but Framing Fowl, thanks for the reminder to look for the blessing. actually i really wanted to get the front part of our property fenced so i dont have to worry about the ducks waddling down to the road again. so i'm working up some gratitude about that.

and the way it worked out i have more gardening space and i think we can run the turkeys (that we dont dress) over there. i think one of the hens is laying over there anyway.

but those folks are gonna have it hard. most of us out here give each other a lot of space.. but then we know we can all count on each other in hard times. and the even-crazier-than-us-rednecks on the other side think their loose dog is even LESS amusing then we do.

and it was pretty classic to see their sad little faces as we were standing there looking at their deer stand in a tree clearly on our side. i'm betting its coming down later tonite.

so for now i'm taking Free's advice and i'm making a huge plate of nachos made from our ground pork. that we dressed. and we found a lot of things to laugh about while we were doing it. many many many things to laugh about.

now where's my tequila - momma needs her med'cine
;-)

Well, seems it was a good thing you went out to put up the fence. This way you found out sooner rather than later, that they were using your property as theirs. Once the fence is up, there'll be no confusion.

Cheers! Nachos sound good....

how long have those morons been your neighbors if they have a tree stand up for deer???

I mean, did they just move in, and a deer stand for later in the year took priority over meeting the neighbors over pie?????

sheesh.

and a loose dog.

I think now's about my trespassing sign would go up!

"All Trespassers will be shot.
Survivors found in the morning will be shot.
And your Little Dog, too."

We feel for you 100%
House behind us. The people that lived there when we bought this place were awsome. Then they moved to Hawaii, and a pile of people moved in.
Many adults. 2 dogs. That come on our property, and growl and make advances.
They claim that they will shoot them if they get our chickens.
IF!!!!!!!?

A few months later, two houses down, another interesting set moves in.
Turns out they have at least 6 dogs. Unruly as well.

Now we have several hundred sled dogs in our area, but I never would dream of them being a problem. THey are under control.
Owners of sled dogs know what they are doing.

Everyone else? Its like they want to break every pet law there is out there :rant

SO my poor birds will be staying in their runs all summer, and I will have to beef up our meat bird tractors.
Little Fort Knox's they will be!
