so.

no one is happy today. we are getting new neighbors and guess what? they have an ill behaved younger dog. who think's our property is the best place ever and keeps coming over.

yesterday the dog came over and started chasing the poultry - we were inside so i went charging out there in my sox, with my dogs blazing. my two chased the pup (a 60lbs dog isnt a pup in my book) off. so then we were all standing out there making sure there went any bodies...and here comes that dog again.

so The Big Man started shouting at them to call their dog back.. and i think they may have laughed... and so my hubby Went Over There. you know.. he Went Over There.

i gotta say, he's the most slow to wrath person i know but when he gets cranked its kind of impressive.

so the older brother (our age) met him half way and arent they sorry and gosh they will do better and etc etc etc. apparently his younger brother and girlfriend are trying to buy the property (its their dog).

uh.huh.

so today we are fencing and i have to say i'm pretty hacked that we have to go and buy a couple hundred $$ worth of fencing b/c they can't control their dog.

this is kind of weird b/c around here most folks keep their dogs contained...if they run loose they generally dont come back. there are lots of folks with livestock and no one thinks its funny at all.

its especially grating to me b/c they are all "well she's just a pup and doesnt listen." um.. i am the last person who believes that crap. (*looks over at well behaved dogs*) as far as i'm concerned they need to get a freakin book and learn how to train their dog. lesson one: get a leash and tie that dog to your belt and make him hold a proximity to you. grrrowl......

what a superfun way to meet the neighbors. here i go for a day of fencing.

:-(

:barnie that's one of my biggest peeves - people who can't keep their dogs at home! Sorry you have to deal with it right now :hugs

Sounds like that dog might go missing before too long, especially if there are lots of farms around. Did The Big Man give 'em a warning? And you are right - it's BS that they can't control their dog.
This week I have had 2 intact large make dogs in my yard. One likes to do his business beside our pool. I have had animal control out here numerous times, but these people just get more dogs :barnie Can't cure stupid.

:he and :barnie for ya!

Total crap that they can't control her because she's young. Put a leash on her! SSS! This is the only time that I am thankful to be living on a busy road. If there is a loose dog, it usually gets killed on the road pretty quickly, so people make every attempt to contain their dogs. And my property is already fenced because of coyotes.

(Looks at Biscotti sleeping on lap...) This is how we ended up with Biscuit. He was loose and uncatchable for at least 6 days before animal control caught him! Well, here he didn't go off-leash until he responded to "come, stop, sit, stay, leave it," etc and very reliably. When he did go off-leash off our property and outside of a fence, he wore an electronic collar and I had the remote in my hand. He got buzzed a few times. Now he is a very, very happy little dog with lots of well-earned (and well-behaved) freedom. But never unsupervised.

Happy fencing.... :(

one of the guys over on BYC had a the perfect reply when the owners of bad dogs came looking for their chicken killin' dog.... he told them

"the last time i saw your dog it was chasing my hens into the woods, geez i hope he's ok"

SSS thats for sure.

or in our case: fence fence fence....

during hunting season around here anyone who lets their dog run loose wont have that problem anymore. the hunters spend a lot of time and money getting their winter game and they dont have any patience for loose dogs chasing off their meat.

as for us, The Big Man and that guy came to an 'understanding' and they care clear on our position. he also put the fear of dog into them about our guys... that our dogs would NOT play with their pup.

my favorite bad dog line is "oh Mr. Woofey would NEVER do that" - generally said while that bad dog has feathers hanging out of his mouth.

or when someone who's stupid (unfixed male) poodle nipped at me "oh he just does that and we dont know how to stop it"...luckily for them The Big Man got ahold of me before i taught that bad dog not to bite at me.

grrowlll....... we'll at least TSC will get their money's worth from us today.

dang.

There was nothing funnier than watching the neighbor's gigantic yellow lab climb my fence, then hit the electric wire at the top with his nose while all four of his feet where well-grounded on the woven wire fencing....YIPE-YIPE-YIPE-YIPE-YIPE!!!!!! He never touched any part of that fence again. I ran the electric wire after he climbed over when I wasn't home and the neighbor COMPLAINED TO ME about the vet bill they had to pay to have him stitched up after he injured himself on MY fence! She was hinting that I should pay! You can imagine what my response was!

We had a guinea killed by a loose dog last fall, and the guy came to our door and offered to pay, with profuse apologies. I declined his payment, thanking him for telling us, as our bird was OFF our property.
