How about a sign that says:

"Firm Believer in SSS"

"Attack Gander on Guard"

And when they ignore both of those, and OD nearly kills them, you can say,"So, didn't believe/heed the Gander warning, did ya?" while holding shovel in one hand, shotgun in the other. ;)

well the fun with the neighbors continued... they had all their rowdy friends over last nite with a big bonfire. ok whatever....

but at 4am when they were still there, music blaring, and then they started laying on the car horns for like a minute straight... for at least 20 mins.... well any friendly understanding i had went directly out the window.

we are missing church AGAIN - there is no way we are leaving the property unprotected now. i'm going to get even more fence and The Big Man is heading out with the chainsaw to wish them good morning. i set the geese out early and chased OD around so he'd be really loud - we didnt even have to tell the guineas...they ran directly over to the new fenceline and started screaming like howler monkeys.

superfun.

say what we need is a couple of 'tough ol' broads'-type church ladies to go over there and give them the big YOOOO HOOOOO !!! i think they could use some savin'

here we go for more fun. later in the week we'll have fun with barbed wire. whoot!

and then it will be electric.

and we moved way out here to get away from annoying neighbors....

they had been using the property as a hunting cabin and we didnt care when they whooped it up once a year.. but now. they can find out what farmin' is all about.

grrrr....

I feel for you hon. Got some neighbors just like that, but closer. Lots of teens and their friends pull up in the yard with car radios boom, boom, booming. One day I stormed over there, hands on hips, and let them know if it happened again, I was calling the law. Since I think they're up to no good anyway, it seemed to work. When the neighbor behind us heard the racket her husband told her she'd better call them and get that noise stopped (it's their renters). She looked out the window and said, "Don't have to - there goes neighbor Karen". The the neighbor on the other side of us said he heard it from the other side of their house and came around to corner to do something about it - he just turned around and went back and when his wife asked what happened he said, "Karen took care of it!" Guess I have a reputation in this neighborhood.

I say wake them up every morning at the crack of dawn - do not let them sleep in after a night of rabble rousing.

I don't know why people think that if they move to the country they can do what they want. I was one of those city people who moved out to the country but was "raised right" and respected my neighbors. We fenced in most of our property and keep our animals on our own property. We were never party people so we are never loud late at night.

Our neighbors moved from the city too and even they are respectful of others. When their kids have a party (which is once in a great while), they make sure the kids keep it down if it goes late into the night. They also told us to go ahead and yell at their kids if they are causing problems or doing something wrong.

I agree. We were city people. First of all we spent a lot of time on weekends and vacations on "the Farm" and got to know the neighbors. Once we moved there, my parents made a point of making sure us kids behaved. When we ran through the dairy farming neighbors' alfalfa field and the neighbor complained, we got in biiig trouble. Noise really carries in the country. We knew the neighbor got up at 4:30 am to milk his cows. We occasionaly got carried away, but as a rule we were considerate.

We had neighbors who came up on weekends in the summer. They were a whole different lot. They would shoot across the road. They shot out several of our windows one day, when we were in town. We had to be careful going past their house, because of the shooting across the street bit. My parents talked to the adults about it. But they were too drunk or didn't care most of the time to notice what their kids were doing. They just had the attitude: "this is the country, we can do what we want"

Give me the address, darlin', and I'll see what I can do. :D Meanwhile, stake up those tomatoes, at least while the neighbors are partying! ;)

I have a weapon for you that worked very well indeed for me when we lived in an apartment and there was and empty lot across the street. The local losers and teens would hang out in that lot, making lots of noise and swearing and doing and dealing drugs. Then one Sunday I came home, gorgeouls summer day with all the windows open, and a neighbor down the street had the most vile music playing at the highest decibels. F this and f that.

Watch out, I'm pullin' out the big guns now.

I'd gone to the library to borrow a tape of an opera, and had made a copy. I put my boombox in the window and set the volume on 10. Aimed it at the offending house and pulled the trigger....er, turned it on.

It was so loud, I had to turn the volume down every minute or so to see if their music was still playing. It took less than five minutes to get my point across, and I never heard any music again played at that volume.

Then I used it at a lower volume whenever the riffraff gathered across the street. Worked like a charm, with in 1-2 minutes on average.

I'm sure you can download something off the internet for immediate use. :p

OMG, reading this thread has made me even more grateful for the location we have here. In front of us is a 160 acre hay field. To our right is an irrigation canal, then a hillside that is not buildable. Behind us, a long tall stretch of hillside, also not buildable. To our left, an 80 acre orchard. Our nearest neighbors are 1/2 a mile away, and are the best neighbors we've ever had. They own/manage the orchard. Their workers are the only people we ever hear, and the sound of workers talking amongst themselves is hardly intrusive. Our three acres feels like a couple hundred, because of the surrounding land. We are blessed.

We have had song wars in this neighborhood as well.

LOUD RAP or HARD ROCK till wee hours of the morning. I like music as well as the next guy but golly be polite! Big Band or a little Highland bagpipes makes great arsenal. Like Free and her opera it didn't take long for them to "get it" and turn down the stereo. Then a little rototiller in the early morning will help to cure those neighbors hangovers as well!

I use the electric poultry netting for my turkey tractor. It works really well with foxes and DOGS. Set up the netting near the property line insert an old expendable rooster and wait for the catch.

you guys are hilarious!!! gosh.. i'm almost too tired to laugh. and my arms are too tired to type!

well we got 2 more rolls of field fence (330ft each) laid down so now we feel better. if their dog comes over here now he's got quite a ways to go and it wont end like they think it will (wonder where Mr. Woofey is??)... and now he'll be more inclined do go to the OTHER neighbors (who are more crazy redneck than us!).... that wont end well either.

maybe i'll take your advice and get me some of that old timey gospel bagpipe opera and bust it on saturday morning! whooot!

the good news is that we figured out we have waaaaaay more property than we thought we did. hummm.... i think we need more fence b/c we think we have another 1000 ft to go!! this can only mean one thing.. cows.. oh yes.. there will be cows....

;-)

happy sunday everyone!!
