that is HILARIOUS!!! i love all the verses that talk about God's love for all the little critters.....and talk about the lion laying down with the lamb... i mean the dog laying down with the hen!!!!

hee hee hee

well we sold a goose in the church parking lot once - but we were so overcome with guilt at being a 'money changer' that we confessed to the pastor and put the $15 in the plate!!!

all the old ladies loved it - we were the talk of the week for having the goose with us. they all wanted to know what we had in our truck. i guess we were the center of a lot of speculation. and we figured we were evangelizing thru poultry b/c the woman who bought the goose asked about coming to our little church. hee hee hee hee

:)

come to think of it - i did take the goat thru the Starbucks drive thru once.....

I also have a guilty confession. :hide

One nice spring day I went to a friends house and bought some fryer rabbits. I put the cage in my car trunk and opened the little "hatch" that opens into the trunk while driving them home.

On my way a car turned onto the road in front of me. The car had several LARGE bumper stickers saying things like, "FREE the LAB ANIMALS" and "NO ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS!" As I was driving along I kept wondering what would happen if they knew I had rabbits in my trunk on their way to becoming dinner? !!! :ep

Well, we are in the thick of it - the snow is falling on The Good Land. This is our weather forecast:

Chance of snow 100 percent.

Yep. Normally I'm a snow hater but today its ok. We got all of our ducks in a row yesterday so we can weather a power outage, a blizzard, or just plain cloudy skies. I'm guessing we have about 3 inches right now and no indication its stopping anytime soon. But we are right at freezing so if this turns to rain it will be one big soggy mess!

Morning chores today were pretty funny - no one but the dogs wanted to be outside. They exhausted themselves while everyone else huddled inside. The geese came out for a while, screamed, and went back in. The turkeys lasted about 10 mins. Most of the hens wont even walk in The White Death so there was a big pile up in the hen house doorway and a lot of pushing and shoving. We added extra straw to their coops to keep them busy and give them some extra eats. Our free rangers hate to be inside as much as I do!

The ducks, tho, where a dilly. The mid-season hatched ducks (the "medium" ducks) boldly launched out of the duck garage and then...then.. well there was a lot of milling about and angry looks. So we moved them into the front yard. More angry looks and the momma of that bunch, Miss Duck, glumly sat down in one of the dog's footprints. We needed to come up with something creative or this was going to be A Very Long Day for everyone.

We evaluated our options. Dash and her babies were now in the duck garage. The hens hate the ducks. The ducks are too wet for the turkeys. The geese - well they cant share with anyone....and the goats dont like newcomers. So we quickly revamped one of our brooders that was in the duck yard... a few quick zipzip zip's of the cordless driver, a big armful of straw, a water bucket and voila! The new day coop for the medium ducks was open for business. We shuttled them in and now they are SO HAPPY. Whew! Crisis averted!

Even our big drake (from the two ladies I lost) came back up from the pond and went in with the rest of them.. we are hoping he'll make a love match with Miss Duck as she needs a man. When I went out there they were snuggling so I think love is in the air.

Not too long ago we noticed one of the little red hens sitting on the goose yard fence. Since I'm a sucker for those sad looks, yes, I pulled on my boots and tromped out to carry her back to the hen house. She likes to lay in the turkey/goose house and ran right out there... but didnt have a plan to get back...or maybe getting me to carry her back WAS her plan. Craftly little gal!

So now we are back inside, stuffed with whole wheat gingerbread pancakes, and soon we'll get the bacons going in the smoker!

Thats us - let is snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Oh - and here's what happens when you try to walk little ducks out into the snow for the first time. I'm calling this one "Unconvinced."

Dash, the momma, is the all white one on the right of this shot. But check out the mostly white babies with the little splashes of black on their heads! Cuties....

Yeah, my runners looked at DH this morning like WTF? when he opened up the house  Lots of yelling, "where the h*** did our grass go and what are we supposed to do with THIS???" They got up and over the snow and tried to walk through it and up to the house and finally decided to go back into their house.

Aren't they fun to watch?
