We have a lot in common! My pony always got the rest of my slurpie! The store owner finally asked me to take him out back to give it to him b/c it would make such a mess on the sidewalk. (He drank out of a soda can too.) He was tied to the newspaper stand!! :p

You are lucky you had a saddle. My dad's childhood friend had a deadly accident involving a stirrup, so my dad outlawed saddles. We had to ride bareback.

When I turned 21 I bought my first saddle. :p

BTW OFG, I am soooo happy you are back!!!! :celebrate Never leave us again! (You are soo right it is loud in the country, as we speak/write/read Tex is crowing up a storm! Man that roo has some pipes!!!)

Well, at least it is quiet at night in the country (for the most part). I remember when we moved from Seattle to our sleepy little town . . . I could NOT sleep because it was too quiet.

That is so funny DM. When we moved our city horses out here everything frightened them! (They were stabled in the city down the street from a fire station and the train tracks...loud corner they were on. Nothing phased them in the city. However out here, they turned into sissys!)

If you can believe it, I had to look that name up, but seeing what it is, I do believe I have had those! How do you pronounce that, anyway?

I have been thinking about making some gingerbread cookies too. I'm not usually a sucker for them, but since I've made a lot of gingerbread pancakes lately, I think I am going to succumb this year. :p I just wish I had some cool cookie cutters.

I think it is pronounced like: pfeff-er-nEW-sa. That U-umlaut is tricky, gotta squeeze your lips into a tight little "o" when you pronounce it.

When the kids were small I took a chicken to church. :ep Does that count as town?

Actually my aunt had this chicken that kept roosting in the horse stall and pooping in the feeder every night she wanted her gone and NOW! I actually took her to eat, but then I started thinking. About that time I was teaching a Sunday school class at church (3 and 4 year olds) and we were studying the creation story. We were up to the point where God made the birds. So I decided they needed a hands on lesson for the coming week! ;)

We bathed the hen and kept her in the bathtub (of all places) with the shower curtain pulled to keep her in. My kids pretty much mauled her for those three days before her "debut", trying to pet and love her. On the day, I placed her in a brown paper sack, folded a few newspapers beneath my arm and headed to church. The kids LOVED her.

After that I "chickened out" of eating her. I just tossed her into the backyard with my German Shepherd and figured that would be the end of her and I would not have to explain things to the kids (who were still really little). God was with the little hen. The German Shepherd and the hen came to an accord. Hen slept in dog house and dog slept under the porch! Her name was Missy Hen. She laid a nice blue egg and lived in our backyard for the next three or four years. She has the distinction of being the first "City Biddy" !

The ones that "go to town" now do so wearing a DRESS! Here is a picture of my "French Hen", a Salmon Faverolle, out promoting the City Biddy Hen House. :D
