thanks ofg and lala! it only took me about 3 days to get it right and to convince myself that it was finished. i could have gone on and on and on. that woman really got a bee in my bonnet (pun intended, of course!).

ofg, CONGRATS on the honey harvest. isn't it just thrilling?

its official! we are in the honey!

after a coupla days of letting it settle we jarred some up. its so much fun! but we need more jars so we'll finish in a bit.

but we've got some storms rumblin' thru so we're home for the rest of the afternoon.

so in the meantime i'm fixin' up more 'mater sauce - trying to stay on top of small batches which is really working out for me (easier, faster).

one of the great things i did yesterday - aside from the blackberry cobbler - was that i did a honey-blackberry jam/preserves. it turned out great! someone (was it someone here??? is so THANKS) made the suggestion right as i was pulling out my Pamona's Perfect Pectin. yay!

our other big news is that we moved our "inside Meeps" (the goslings OD and the adults rejected) to a new grazing spot beside the duck yard. they'll have better grass and shade over there. they are really getting big! DB is clearly a toulouse..and Little G - well, she's a little bit of everything. cutest little thing ever.

even with the heat i got some weeding done. it feels good to get SOMETHING done. so at least there is that.

ok my stuff is boiling - off for canning!
:)

other ohio folks - here's hoping we will FINALLY cool off! wowza what a week!

Gosh, it really seems you guys got our heat! I don't envy you, but could you give a little bit of it back
I'm freezing my buns off here. Really, we are wearing our winter coats in the mornings and the evenings. I haven't even brought my bathin suits out yet. Well I sort of did yesterday, just to see what they look like and then put them away again.
I am just happy to be wearing my overall shorts and a tank top today. But I'm sure I'll be putting those long pants and sweatshirt and wintercoat back on, later in the afternoon. :/

We haven't been bbq'ing nor eating dinner outside yet this year. And our tomatoes are green.

But at least we have peaches, blackberries, cucumbers and swiss chard. SO thought I was crazy to plant swiss chard, ha :p

Blackberry cobbler? :drool. Yummy!

I am with FD on the weather, it has been unusually cool for us.... I am sure it is much warmer down here than up north!

I am finally getting some maters in the ground today, it will be interesting to see how they do! I hope I can get some nice ripe ones since this season is off to such a ridiculously slow start!

You gonna share your cobble recipe??

How exciting! I have been dreaming of that moment for months and months and months and months. We should get some bees. That would help. ;)

Hmm, I may just have to go out and buy that five gallon bucket of raw wildflower honey I've been considering! I feel inspired! But not ready for bees, yet....maybe cooking with honey for a year will help me decide....

Hey, we should consider a "cooking with honey" thread...

crisis averted -- i have ham and chocolate cake

as you may have seen here:
http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6454

i woke up lookin for a fight. then when i went out to unleash the flapping masses, i stepped backward into a pan of water - and got drenched and spilled it all down my dang boot, then there was nothing but chaos out there... and more chaos in here .. so i've been in a a bad mood this morning

but

i had me some ham so i think i'm gonna make it. all i need to do now is head outside (where it ISNT hot enough to melt your face off) and work the rest of this out of my system. whew.

maybe them pigs will make it thru the day.

At least the humidity broke overnight. Ahhh, relief. Hope your day gets better :hugs

Does your DH by any chance have experience in statistics and insurance? My hubby's department is hiring. We try to put the word out to folks we know, just in case...

The pics were great - thanks for sharing! I had to laugh - your dh and you are the exact opposite of my dh and me!! TR refuses to do anything that can remotely be called "handling the bees". I'm the one who suits up and does whatever needs done. TR is "official photographer". :D

We only had 1 medium frame of completely capped honey, which is what we have harvested so far. One of our friends lent us his hand-crank metal extractor. I used my bread knife for uncapping, since we harvested only the one frame. We ended up with a bit more than 1 quart of beautiful amber wildflower honey from that one frame. :drool

Made a peach pie in your honor last night, and used raw wildflower honey to sweeten it. YUMMMMMM! That'll cure what ails ya!

Fed my pigs on almost all "garbage" this morning, and it sure felt good. I just gave them one pound of corn along with it.
