I have been looking up honey jelly recipes. I just need to get more jelly jars before I try any. I have been bolstered by my good results from the pepper jelly experiments.

OFG - Congrats on the honey crop!! :clap

We might be taking a small bit of honey from our #1 hive this year.... depending on how it looks this week. I may just feed it to the #2 hive, which is the swarm from our #1 hive two weeks ago.

Doncha just love the smell of fresh honey in the house?! :love It sure is a sticky mess though! :D

Did you say you were looking for recipes for your honey? LOL . . . I mean to use your honey in? I made these honey cupcakes with honey buttercream frosting and they were the bomb! I did not make the topping stuff though . . . I didn't think they needed it. I know you have nothing better to do all day than make cupcakes and all. ;) If you do make them . . . the recipe makes about a dozen cupcakes, but I got enough frosting for about 18 cupcakes. :)
Oh yum!!!! :drool

I'm hoping to break open my hive this weekend and see how things are. I doubt I'll harvest any this year, but here's hoping!

the lights are back on!!!

whew.. that was close. the electric was out for most of the day yesterday - until 11:30 last nite! it was startin' to get mighty warm in the house..sheesh!

so of course, it went out just as i was about to tackle the sticky honey mess in the kitchen, so not only was it hot, but it was sticky and we were caught off guard (the storm just wasnt that bad!) so we had to do chores last nite with no water. dang!

but everything is back to normal - i'm headed out to do a few things before The Warden scoots me back inside. heat advisories a-plenty today.

and then i'll be able to get my honey pics organized. we were "super" (thats a bee buzz pun, you know) excited about our results. hopefully we'll get another harvest in the late fall. and heck - why weed when the beez need something to eat! ha!

someone (golly - sorry cant remember who) was asking about our frames and foundation.. we have some results and i'll give a report on that as well

for now i'm just so glad to get the house cooled and shoveled out. whew!

hot 'nuf for ya, midwest folks!?!?!? sheesh!

Glad to hear your power is back up. We had the same thing happen here last week. Just getting through one day was miserable. It made me realize how unprepared we are for a long-term outage.

Sorry to hear ya lost power, OFG, especially when trying to do extractor clean up. We had that same storm, only luckily for us no power loss in our area.

Looking forward to pics!

"Glad to her your power is back on!! But why didn't you have water?

I have a turkey question for you. I bought 5 poults and when I got them home I noticed one had an eye issue. It was not completely open. I figured I would give him(assumed) a day to adjust. It's worse. Looks to be not opening at all. I can open it with my fingers but not on his own. What should I do with him? I figure I can put him first on the list for freezer camp. So I just wonder if the other birds will be nice to him or he will be harassed. What do you think? should I take him back to the feed store? I don't think they have any bourbon reds left. I really don't want another breed.

Help????

I have had stuff like that with a chicken before. It is possible that the eye was scratched or somehow damaged at the store. I would probably TRY to get a partial refund since you haven't had them very long or ask for a replacement and then turn down another breed (they may refund your whole amount)

As far as care I would try rinsing it with some saline solution to see it that helps or possibly apply some antibiotic ointment made for use in eyes (they sell that at Walgreens). Then I would just let him grow as normal. It probably won't effect his growth and I doubt if the others will pick on him because of that.

I am guessing that she didn't have water because she has an electric well pump, but I am not positive.
