We got another scorcher predicted for today.

I keep asking mom for her Pflaumenkuchen recipe and she always answers the same. Just make some yeast dough, roll it out to about an inch or so thickness, press the plums into the dough (skin side down, the plums are cut in half), put lots of butter on it and sprinkle sugar over the plums and bake.
You need to use the italian type (or the plums they use to make prunes) of plums though. The other kinds are too juicy. I am also assuming that you make a sweet yeast dough, not a regular bread dough.
I actually planted an italian plum tree a few years ago, so I could make this cake. So far no plums have lasted long enough to be made into cake. I always eat them all fresh :p

hey FD! wow thats great from your mom! i think i have a sweet dough that i can use. i love it when the older ladies (if i may) act like you dont even need a recipe!

hey.. i think i'm on my way to doing that! ha!

so i got 2 headaches from town today:

1. i broke my glasses frames yesterday and yes, i taped them, and yes i know that makes me a bigger nerd. but The Big Man's suggestion was to fix them with a zip tie. no way.

the good news was the the folks as lenscrafters really did right by us. so run out and use their products and services. really - the store manager really helped us out.

2. we ate mall food. and now i have a screaming grease headache

YIKES!

other than that...

its cool and heavenly. i've got the canner running full blast...and i think the rain has stopped for now. the pigs have gone to town with the new pen. its gonna be all tilled up perfectly... we're glad we made the extra effort.

so thats us. happy tuesday!
:)

I have a bunch of stuff that needs canning, but not until the temps come down.
I got in trouble with SO yesterday for browning a chicken and sauteeing some shallots, before putting them in the crockpot so we could have a decent dinner. The crockpot spent the day in the "porch", so it didn't heat up the house. I steamed some rice in the evening and made a cucumber salad.

All right, I am going back outside to turn on some water for the critters and check on them.

I was thrilled with Lenscrafters. Then our insurance changed and we can't go there anymore :(

Hey OFG, how are you doing your pears?

I helped my mom do a big batch of them a few years back and we saved some of the extra syrup on them when we canned them and boiled it down a bit and it makes the best pancake syrup!
