Hah! And I never made my fries last night. My canning took too long so we just opened up a jar of chili and a Costco container of guacamole. Maybe tonight....

I love hearing "townfolk" (lol) talking about more natural eating and getting to know their food supply.
you said it! they were so reverent about it... we nearly spit out our french fries laughing when we wondered if their local producer knew the "do you think he's faking it" joke on butcher day.

we think we are hilarious. ha!

Free - i still have a french fry hangover. ick. i think i've had 47 glasses of water today and it still hasnt flushed all the salt and grease out of my system.

so we tried a little hard work -- we got another truck load of wood. now we are ready for the storm they keep yammerin' on about. its getting darker by the second.

and i'm waiting for my 4H kid to get home so i can watch her do the BoSe shots for Fat Deb and Tubbie.

and

i've got some canning to do - stock and more stock.

and

i've got two different kinds of breads ready for later tonite when i fire up the oven. and i might do scones b/c all i can think about is the cream tea they had on Edwardian Farm.

and

i have to lovingly wash my new stuff i got from the restaurant supply place! whooooot!

thats the update so far.

:)

:frow What did you get at the supply store?

Here's that bread recipe I use. I never did find the recipe card so I wrote it from memory - I think I got it all :p

I have to preface this by saying I throw everything in the bread machine on the dough cycle to mix and rise, then I pull it out and shape it and put in pans for final rise. To shape it I cut the dough in half, roll it flat with a rolling pin to about cookie sheet size, then roll it up like cinnamon rolls and fold the ends under, and pinch the seams closed. That's just the way my Mom does it.
This is 2 loaves.

Crusty Honey Wheat Bread
Combine wet ingredients to heat:
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/2 cup honey
3 Tb. butter

Heat above ingredients to 120 degrees.

Add 1 egg, but temper it into the wet ingredients so ya don't scramble it!

Dry ingredients: *I mess around with the flour percentages alot*

4 - 4.5 cups of whole wheat flour
2- 2.5 cups white flour
1Tb. salt
2 packets of yeast, or equivalent amount
I usually add some vital gluten, especially for a higher amount of whole wheat

So then mix, knead, rise, shape, pan, rise, bake. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes, turn down to 350 and bake another 30-35 minutes. I think. Yeah, that sounds right.

Yes, I need a list of what you got from that supply house so I can seriously get my envy going. Besides the panties. TMI.

hi java! thanks for the bread recipe - with our honey it should be a good one for us!

ha! Free you at tooo much!

so

talk about $58 worth of fun! we had a great time at the restaurant supply place - around here its:
http://www.wasserstrom.com/

and they have an online store so yay!

this is what i came home with:

657_kitchen.jpg

i'm always amazed at the great values. for $58 (Nicholas not included) i got:

* a heavy duty baking sheet
* another pizza sheet (using for bread right now)
* a 2 gallon food quality plastic bucket
* a ladle (6 oz)
* a pair of TONGS (not fancy pants, Free! ha!)

and the best find.... a 4 quart HEAVY stainless steel sauce pan.. for $32

you heard me = $32 bucks! whooooot!

all of the industrial stuff i've ever gotten has been really fabulous and waaaay cheaper than the consumer name brands. for instance, i think the baking sheet was about $8. you can get a 'regular' one in the store for under that.. but mine holds 4 dressed chickens without getting all wobbly and bendy.

a lot of the restaurant supply places are open to the public and as long as you dont mind a big warehouse to shop in... its a great way to stock up.

the next time i go i'm gonna get a huge stainless stock pot for about $100.

but now i'm gonna go and finish those "cut rounds" i just pulled out of the oven

yay!!!

hehe I was going to ask if the cat was included in your bargain.
That is some fun looking stuff right there! As I get more and more into cooking real food it is amazing what catches my "fancy" lol
