OMG, years ago one of my co-workers' (supervisor, actually) mother passed away. We all worked really hard and got finished early so we could go to the funeral. A few days before we had been laughing about how someone at a funeral will always make the comment that he/she looks so natural, and that old standby - my you haven't changed a bit. Well we all sat down on the same pew and 2 little ladies sat down in front of us - sure enough, there came both comments. We snickered and I turned my face to the side so I wouldn't be looking at the others trying to stiffle their giggles. When I turned, my nose stuck right inside a large spider mum. The bench was shaking from 6 women trying not to laugh out loud. Thank God she never knew how irreverent we were at her mother's funeral. Later at the family home we were in the kitchen helping put out all the food and another little lady tottered up and made a comment about how sweet we were to be helping out and asked if we were the little girls from the church. We were all in our 30's so she set us off again.

When my grandma died (after 5 years of senility in nursing care) we attended her funeral with the entire family, including our two younger children, who were about three and seven at the time. Grandma was jolly and fun and they did not really know her, so we felt it was emotionally okay for them.

The funeral home and ceremony was chosen by an uncle and I don't think much thought was put into it. The music, the flowers and the building itself were the dreariest, ugliest place I've ever seen. We rolled our eyes as we looked around and sat down and the boys were thinking they were entering some sort of haunted house. When the music started, this ghastly organ music that sounded like someone was stepping on Grandma's cat's tail, my three-year-old made a grimace and asked could they stop that music? My teenage daughter started to snicker and we were done for.

The entire rest of the ceremony, we had the giggles. First one would start, then the other, and we finally had tears running down our faces not from the sorrow of losing Grandma (who had essentially been gone for five years), but the hilarity of how awful the ceremony was. We were estranged from some of our relatives so didn't care they gave us some quelling looks. Hubby is usually the serious one and even he succomed to giggles when the rector started talking about the piousness of the passing generation (Grandma started drinking beer every morning at noon and her favorite game was Blackjack). It really put us all in the mood to go and have a beer and toast Grandma after the story so we could get our giggles out in a better situation.

I told my teenage daughter at the time, who knew Grandma, that is how she would have wanted it. She would have laughed at the silly organ too.

I remember a Mary Tyler Moore episode where a clown died and Mary snickered and snickered and laughed during the church service.

Am I showing my age? :hide

Yep, 'cause I almost mentioned that last night but decided not to!!! It was Chuckles the Clown. I get the giggles just thinking about it!

Yeah, OFG, that was me who suggested the pokechops and sauerkraut. I just love that dish. My family won't eat sauerkraut though, so I rarely get to make it.

Glad you liked it.

I adore Trader Joes. They carry more low sodium products than any store I've ever found, ever.

I love their cheese section, but you make your own cheese, right? So perhaps they don't seem so special. They are not low sodium however.....how did I stray over to that aisle? :hide

They have everything there except bacon.......
