Please stop egging Nature on I got goat babies coming in about 10 days and I don't need a foot of snow, or a new pond in my goat yard while I'm out there supervising
edit to add: Probably a good idea to keep the goats in. Poultry too. One of my drakes is limping badly from slipping. Might be a slipped tendon but I can't catch him because the ice is so slippery.:/ I would have kept them in if I could - their coop just isn't big enough to be inside all day. I'll have to wait until they go into the coop tonight and check him over. He's always had a delicate leg anyway.
Right now we are in the process of being flooded before it turns to ice and snow. It has been raining since just before daylight and the temp is 34 and falling steadily. They have already closed school in preparation for the ice. Every weather forecast I've seen has been different. I don't know if we are due just rain, freezing rain, or all of the above plus a foot of snow! That was mentioned also.
It rained ice most of the day yesterday, and today the snow has come. So far little flakes and not too bad, but they did call off school.
What has me troubled are the birds.
I fed my hens today and they are hanging close to the coop, but seem fine. Wild birds on the other hand are not to be seen. AT ALL. I thought my feeder must be empty and it was but even after filling it and putting out corn and sun flower seeds way early this morning for the squirrels there are NO birds in the sky or to be seen at all. No squirrels either. They must all be holed up someplace just waiting... for what!!
We have about 2 inches so far. Snow is falling fast and furious but tiny little flakes looks like a fog almost. Getting harder to see across the street.
Looking at my morning news, I'm glad so many of you still have power. It is hard to believe because we are having a clear, sunny, cold crisp day here. Maybe this is the weather YOU all will be getting next. I'll try not to use up all the good weather as it passes over.
i'm watchin the weather guy charting the course for round 2... wow
thunder! wow its gonna be a wild nite
the goats are still inside. even tho its kinda melty its still a big ice flow out there.
the geese seem to be doing ok but everyone else is having a hard time. some of the lady ducks like to roost on the fence... but they cant get a grip on the icy surface! its actually a little funny.
so we are hunkered down. i ice skated out to see if we got any mail but now i'm inside. sink is cleaned out. got lots of cookies.. and i have a stew on the wood stove. all in all its been a success.
FF now that you mention it.. i went and looked and our wild feathered friends are out there. but you'll get pounded first so we'll be watching you!
now where is my book... i got some slothin to do
;-)
