The Big Melt is ON!

42* balmy degrees and everyone is very happy.... especially the hens. i need to shovel out the hen house and they will love the new straw....and they are ranging far and wide after being cooped up for so long!

as for me, i was out there with out a jacket and it was heavenly.

yesterday we had a banner day. we went to town and:

1. got all our errands done
2. got home with plenty of daylight to get all the evening chores done and everyone tucked in
3. NO ONE was laying dead in the yard!

whew! i'm such a worry wart when we are gone... so it was a -A day!!

heading out for more fresh air....... and much less snow! melt demon snow, melt!

:)
That explains why your whole neighborhood sleeps naked and hangs out on front porches in underwear and togas... My girl, you live in an interesting neighborhood! And everyone has spring fever

The Big Melt has turned into The Big Sog. It pretty much rained continuously today and no one was happy.

The turkeys managed to get the gate closed and were stuck outside in the rain for who knows how long - we got home late after church and they were all standing there soaked and miserable.

And I'm not sure who came up with the expression "mad as a wet hen" - all of my silly clucks were out there scooting around in the darn rain! they were soaked also and very happy about it.

I have high hopes for tomorrow tho - after this rain passes we are supposed to have mild temps and should dry out. The ducks will be thrilled to get down on the pond. I might even let Dash take the babies out for a swim.

That is if the rain actually stops and we don't have the build an ark!

I guess the geese were happy today. They finally could get some bites of grass now that The White Death has mostly melted away.

Speaking of, I'm working on my relationship with our demon gander, OD. I'm trying positive affirmations, such as:

"Hi OD! You look beautiful today!"

"Hi OD - great job on keeping the ladies together!"

and most recently:

me: Hi, OD! I love you!
The Big Man, tromping along behind me: Hi OD. I don't.

He's not helping.

:gig

That so happened here, when I had my quad of Embdens.

except it was me saying "I don't" and it was me who sent their fat butts to sale. :)

OOOH me! I know about the "mad as a wet hen" thingy. (as well as LOTS of other useless things)

The old wives cure for broodiness in a hen was to dunk the hen into a bucket of cold water. That would then - certainly - make the broody "mad as old wet hen". :ep

i swear i learn something new... really? who would do that to a hen!?!? i guess an old wife...

actually, goosedragon over on BYC was telling me that i could TRY and break Dash from being broody by taking her off her nest and putting her in an open air wire cage to help cool her body temp. there was a whole explanation behind it and it made sense.. but when i saw her sad little eyes and how she screamed and stomped her little feet when took her eggs.... but i guess it worked out b/c we got darling little Puddles, and we are becoming more convinced the two mostly-white babies are females!

and you know how i love white fluffy CUTE ducks... not water dragons....

say, did i ever tell you how i got the geese???
