I think the first thing on the to do list today should be to either get them chest waders out or go buy a pair!

 That would not have worked as an excuse for our school. I need to get out of this place someday.

I still haven't tasted the goat milk cold and raw since last week when I deemed it not ready. DH didn't like it. There was an aftertaste about it that wasn't quite right :/
I'm a little afraid because if it still doesn't taste right, and nobody likes it, then what? I got goats for no good reason if so...but I'm trying not to think like that. (can't justify keeping 2 goats just for lattes for myself)

Jav - I'm not partial to drinking goat milk, but I have 7 milk goats (OK, 5 with two kids). I'm not a huge milk drinker, though, so milk always tastes bad or spoiled to me. This year I'm going to try a different method while milking - I'm going to put an icepack in the milk pail to cook the milk immediately as it comes out. Maybe that'll help...

Then you have at least had some dairy experience for your mini cow or milking sheep herd!

Even if you don't ever like goats milk straight at the very least you can make lots of GREAT cheeses or yogurt or ice cream or soap or sour cream or ... well you get the idea! ;) :)

I'm going to do that once we get more volume. I get the milk in the freezer to chill within 5 minutes and it doesn't take long for a cup of milk to get cold. So I don't think that's what the taste is :hu I dunno. It just isn't 'sweet' like I thought it would be. A mini-mancha is supposed to be the best of both for taste and texture. (I'm also having a bad week, so this whole problem might clear up as soon as my mood does - meaning it's all in my head :p)

No, there will not be cows here. I have been informed by neighbors  Doesn't matter if they were the size of a chihuahua, they would have a fit. And my Dad would disown me if I thought about sheep. Long story.

So - do you think the taste will go away or get stronger when the milk is used in recipes? Forget ice cream because nobody here would eat it. They are addicted to that crap in the huge pails  I can't eat it because of teeth problems. I guess I'll have to give cheese a go and see.

I challenge you!

Save a big old ice cream pail. Then make a batch of homemade chocolate custard or vanilla custard goats milk ice cream and carefully FILL that big old pail. Put it the freezer and don't say a word.
