I can't comfort you. I MISS the snow. The kind where it comes in December and stays till april. You know, the kind where it is white and bright all winter long, you don't have to deal with the snowing and melting and the grey slush and salt stains on your boots. and the grey slush and puddles. Up north, you only have to deal with that in april--the rest of the year you get to go out and enjoy all that snow. snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing, tobogganing.

Here, we have a bit of snow on the ground, some drifts, but we also have slush. did I mention I don't like slush?

since i'm complaining anyway.......

1. my snow rage has reached a new level and its only 9:09 in the am... now we are having freezing fog, and freezing "slain" (sleet/rain). super.

2. i LIKE the crazy curler's pants. and Al Roker looked fabulous in them this morning....

3. not to be a hater.. but why, exactly, is snowboarding a sport? i like Shawn White and all.. but what is that all about? i can even understand when they are racing.. but the half pipe? really? my fav sport is the skiing and shooting. totally cool.

on the upside.....

1. i had a b*tchin' cup o' joe this morning... thanks to my french press and fancy beans from a pal on the Left Coast

2. today's goal: take a shower. pretty much that is it.

3. there will be bacon today...oh yes....

4. i cant get enough of this guy:

note: not for tender eyes

that is all. i'm off to to and glare at the snow and shout curses at the cold sky.

hey D!

i actually grew up in Northern Ohio..and i swore i'd never spend another winter in the frozen tundra.

so where i am now.. in the more southern part of the state... its supposed to be totally different. and honestly the last several winters (i've been here since Dec 2005) just havent been that bad.

usually it will snow, then melt within a couple of days. but this whole 'snow and then stick around' is just fatiguing us all. i'm afraid the poultry will get chilled so we've been pouring on the corn, making sure everyone is out of the wind, and all have somewhere dry to stand and roost.

to put it in perspective.. normally we are supposed to be about 40* during the day at this time of year... and we havent been above freezing for a couple of weeks. in the last two weeks the local kids have had 2 days of school.

this is NUTS

going into the end of this week the big danger is icy roads. last year we wrecked two trucks and we just cant afford to take any chances with The Big Man out of work. my sis has been wrecked into twice in the last 3 months - neither were her fault but the last totaled her car...and now, of course, she is screwed as they don't give you enough to get another car. she had a good used car...and they are only giving her $2800... so ugh!

my seattle friends have been telling me about the 50* days and that everything is starting to bloom! we keep thinking about moving 'Left" - most likely south/west oregon and this winter is just convincing me more and more...

we actually worked outside a bit. we got to the point where we HAD to shovel out the duck garage and the hen house. but first i had to dig out my wheel barrow! it was full of snow and in an 18" drift!

the hilarious thing was.... we uncovered a mouse strong hold!

of course my little velociraptors made short work of them (yay hens!!). but the horrible tiny little screams where just blood curdling. after the shrieking started i made The Big Man go in the and shovel out the debris.... eeeeeeeek!

i have to say - my little hens were amazing... it was like a rugby match in there... or one of those bride shows where they sell wedding dressing for like $10 and the gals are in there having a tug o war? only it was much more horrible.....eeeeeeekkkk!!!!

in the meantime... come on Quail...lets get out of this place!

Come back!! I got hot and had to peel off a few layers while I worked on the pig pen. I even got some sun on my shoulders! I had to dig up my beat up cowgirl hat b/c the sun was so bright.

Oh, and last night by the fire pit, the stars were out like nobody's business. I thought I was back in Tejas! Background music was a gazillion little frogs. I think they were singing "come back OFG!! What were you thinking?"
