This is my fear every time I go out to the chicken yard. It is so slippery. And if you get into it, the muck pulls you in like quicksand. DH is going to lay a pallet down so we can get to into the coop. We have large stepping stones laid out, but they are buried. Ick, yuck, I hate spring thaw.i fell in a heap (hard) into the swill. i was completely and totally slimed. it. was. so. gross.
A couple of years ago my D1 was home alone tending her animals when she fell on the ice in the pasture. Try as she might she could NOT get to her feet. Stranded alone in the middle of a pasture in freezing weather without even a phone to call for help. It could have been a very dangerous situation but for a big "dog". Her POA pony Cayenne, saw the problem and came over to my D1 allowed her to climb up her legs to stand and then she and the other pony, which came along side, walked her across the ice and to the backyard fence. She came in and called me after it was over. Thank goodness for true love and big "dogs".ohiofarmgirl said:luckily The Big Man and the big dog came over and got me up. the best part of having an extra big dog is that they can stand there on the ice with their big claws for traction and i can crawl up on him. i almost rode him out of the ice field....
