hi everybody!

for heavens sakes. again. with the snow. big ol' puffy flakes. dang..... we are just looking numbly out at it. i had the deck all shoveled off and alot of it had melted yesterday and now.. this. dang.

ok so my little hen...

her name is Spike and she is a little white leghorn mutt - beautiful... the palest gray with black splashes. she loves to lay in the goaties corner feeder, which is not desirable, of course. so yesterday i fished her out and was carrying her over to the fence, where my plan was to hand her over the fence to The Big Man, and have him put her in the hen house.

it was going great until....

just as i was holding her up high over head to clear the fence.... oh geez.. i spied with my little eye.... oh no.. honey quick take this hen!

and then out plopped the egg...narrowly missing me and kersplatting on the ground.

she was furious.

we laughed. a lot.

then called Shady over to clean up the mess (for her part, she thought this was a trick b/c i was always scolding her to stay away from the eggs.

today little Spike was in the goats feeder....we just left her this time.

its always something.

There is always something crazy going on down on the farm isn't there?

Last week or so, I had some friends over and Kate my LGD FINALLY caught the squirrel that has been teasing her for almost a full year...FINALLY!!!! :celebrate While my guests watched the whole event (and listened) in complete shock and horror, Kate chomped on and shook that thing until if finally stopped the horribly loud squealing. Then took it away to eat it. The whole time I was screaming "Yea Katie, yea Katie!!!! You go girl!!!"

My poor guests will never be the same. :p

I am still congratulating her for a job well done. Good dog!

you know, i asked my neighbor (who's been around the farm a time or two) once is 'this kind of thing' happens to everyone.... and she said (gently) no honey, i think its just you.

sigh.

but at least we can have some laughs. i do think, however, that i'm emotionally scarred by watching that egg come barreling out of that little hen's bottom tho. i may never be right now.

BBH - reminds me of when someone (i didnt know) was saying that they were gonna put their dog down b/c he wouldn't stop hunting (rabbits, squirrels etc) and all the sympathetic do-righters were standing around nodding sayin, yeah thats one mean dog. i couldnt take it anymore and so i said (insert some swearin' here seein' as you know how i am) "that dog deserves a medal for keeping the vermin down and if you don't want him you just bring that good dog right over to me"

i'm not sure what they thought about that. but for that dog and Miss Kate too - "good work, good dog, good work."
