Whole milk or better yet, cream. Avoid anything reduced fat or fat free.

oh good! because I hate 2% milk.

if I were to get cream, are we talking heavy whipping cream like is sold in stores? or what? I mean, how would I know that I'm getting real cream?

is that what half n half is?

I buy Farmer's Creamery whipping cream. Avoid ultra-pasteurized anything. It is getting harder and harder to find stuff that wasn't cooked to death :p

I just skimmed, but yes, Dace gets a big gold star!

Skip the green peas except as a rare treat. Use snow or sugar snaps. Learn what a serving size is....usually a half a cup. Picture your plate with a half cup of pasta or a half cup of corn, peas, rice, what have you. That is a serving. Two carb servings a day, all of the above are carbs. (Except pea pods, use sugar snaps in moderation if mature.)

One serving of fruit per day for weight loss, no juice of any kind. Two for men. That is why we hate them. :D

NOTHING labeled Lite, Diet, Low Fat, Sugar-Free, etc. NO MARGARINE!!!!! It is poison. As is Crisco, etc. Might as well feed your kids motor oil. Really. The damage is silent but profound and will kill you, unpleasantly, eventually. I don't have strong opinions, do I? :lol:

I am not a huge fan of charts of any kind, including online glycemic charts. Use with caution. You still can't eat LGI fruit and carbs all day and lose weight and be healthy.

OK, back to doing chores!!! Don't tell dh I was on the computer again!!! ;)

Half and half is typically 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 cream.

I agree, with WZ - Read the labels to make sure you aren't buying anything ULTRA Pasteurized.


ETA:

Do you have any milkers? Or just male moos? :D

*Edited to say Kel is correct on the half & half, I am wrong!

If you must have bread...read the label choose one with a higher fiber than sugars.

Breakfast, depending on what you are used to may be the hardest.
Here is the lowdown on my diet:

Breakfast-
Handful of carrots while coffee is brewing (breaks the *fast* and gets some fiber in me to slow down the sugar rush from my coffee)
Coffee

Smoothie with 8oz kefir (plain yogurt is good), carrot, spinach, kale, 3/4 c frozen blueberries, 1/2 banana, tsp raw honey and filtered water to thin.
or
Veggie & cheese omelet/fritatta

Snack - handful almonds or chunk of cheddar

Lunch- Big @ss salad...2 cups greens, 1 cup chopped veggies, protein (egg, chickens cheese, whatever)

Snack - apple or orange...although usually nothing

Dinner - meat of some sort, pile of roasted veggies

soup & salad
or
If I am serving something that is heavy carb, like pasta or tacos....I always eat a big salad first and then have a small serving of the dinner.

Don't be a slave to the list, just be more mindful of what you are choosing to eat.....fine tune it as you go. If you start out too ridged you may burn out!

Where are y'all getting your real natural nuthin-added cream? Is it available in the States these days?

All I can find here in Canada is stuff that has about six or eight ingredients, thickeners and stabilizers and SUGARS.

Read your labels, tell me what you're seeing.

We have one heifer out there. She's become so friendly, too. Originally we were going to butcher her, but she's half black angus and half holstien, and I mentioned to DH I bet we could milk her since she's 1/2 dairy...We cannot breed her until next spring, though, so we've got awhile before I'll have my milker.

But, that's part of the reason I'm trying to get find a reasonably priced goat - hopefully already in milk, but I'm willing to settle for an adult doe that I can have bred now and milk later.

I'm liking the idea of omelets for breakfast! and I have the perfect little omelet pan...

what about mushrooms? where do mushrooms fall in with this?

Dace your menu sounds great. Except I am not really a smoothie person. When I did low carb I had scrambles with low carb veggies & cheese, omelets etc.. Big salads Cobb style for lunch and pretty normal diners. I always doubled the veggie and omitted the rice or potatoes etc...

I think I am going to have some confusion between the two eating styles.

Nuts are good. heavy cream etc.. oh man I just looked at my cream and its ultra pasteurized. Dace what brand do you buy???

Free hows the pig house??

Is there a manual some where I can read. I do much better if I have a guide book?

So skip the toast, switch to real old fashioned oat and pass on the pancakes :)

My fave omelet type eggy dish is to simply saut up a mess of chopped veg in butter, then pour in a couple of beaten eggs and scramble them up...fritatta style which I think is French for easy peasy :lol:

Mushrooms are fine....nearly all veggies are fine, really just go really light on pots, peas & corn.

Try to squeeze in some sort of veg into your breakfast. :thumbsup
