personally i don't understand why you would want to eat that restrictivly unless you were doing a group "year in the life" kind of thing like "the edwardian farm"...
For BBHs daughter. its because of some very restrictive health issues they are dealing with.
Believe it or not a clinical dietitian teamed up with my daughter's pulmonologist and recommended she be put on this restrictive diet. She died 5 months ago from severe pneumonia (her 14-15th time to get it), was resuscitated, spent over a month in the hospital and is still undergoing major lung recovery. She is still internally inflamed...lung and tonsils esp. She has probably been inflamed her whole life and they think it is because of her diet. Which I thought was pretty healthy to begin with, lotsa fruit, veggies, legumes, very lean meats, low fat and no fat dairy, soy products such as milk and garden burgers etc. and whole grains.

Switched her to a "Nourishing Traditions-type*" of diet about a year and a half ago(thanks to freemotion's class). Her grades shot through the roof almost right away.

Really, cutting out grains/gluten, legumes and maybe dairy is not that hard. Three days into this and we are feeling fantastic. Last night we actually went out to eat, I ordered a flat iron steak, steamed veggies with butter and a side salad with homemade blue cheese. She had a chicken ceasar salad with no croutons. (We haven't eliminated dairy yet, b/c her dietitian said not to do it all at once.)

ETA, in a nutshell: *good carbs, no bad carbs, full fat raw dairy, grass fed meats and eggs, tons of veggies raw, fermented and cooked, no soy or corn in any form, and some fruit.

Try to understand what it is like to feel like garbage every day of your life for year after year. Wonder if it is all in your head, have a myriad of health problems....then suddenly... BAM! You feel AWESOME! ALIVE!

Some people have to ability to process a lot of garbage with no ill effects. A LOT do NOT! Of course, having society blame the victim for their condition doesn't help.

Modern food is inherently damaging. I could give you all the research, but a great deal of the info is in one book, "Good Calories Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes.

I eat FANTASTIC food. The variety is unbelievable. If you are eating a modern diet, you only think you are getting variety. Processed food is all the same thing with different shapes and artificial flavorings to give you the illusion of variety.
Yup, what they said! I eat modified Paleo (I eat dairy products.) I haven't felt this good in years. I reversed Pre-diabetes, got my thryroid levels to a normal number, my cholesterol improved to a normal range and I dropped 30 lbs easily. I don't feel awful as my insulin levels spike and crash all day long. :D

Not having those blood sugar swings that leave you shaking, sweating, and eating anything that doesn't move is SO NICE! :D

I love when people ask what diet I follow. I say, the abifae diet. :D I eat what sounds right at the time. Technically I'm "high fat low carb" but honestly... when hormones hit, I'll hit 150 carbs in a day :gig

But that is exactly how I eat. Abifae in a nutshell.

The "abifae diet" cute! :)

Today's "Paleo menu"...

Breakfast:
eggs and bacon
water
coffee
(I know I should have had some veggies in there somewhere, but I needed to go shopping.)

Lunch:
biggy salad full of bell peppers, carrots, romaine and baby spinach
topped with leftover pulled pork
homemade balsamic* and cold pressed olive oil dressing
water
(obviously I went shopping)

Dinner:
smothered eye of round steak (smothering sauce is white wine and tomato paste)
smothered on a bed of 1 sauteed-in-bacon-fat onion
served with sauteed (again, in bacon fat) red, green and yellow bell peppers, garlic and even more onions
side salad with homemade balsamic and olive oil dressing
water

snacks:
a few blueberries, strawberries and macadamia nuts
fermented cucumbers aka pickles

Tomorrow's dinner: I'm making some kind of stew with slow cooked bone broth.

I am going to make coffee smoothies for a friend of mine and myself. I froze leftover coffee in an ice cube tray. I'm going to blend them with coconut milk tomorrow. :)

Today was day 4: For the first time in a long time, Sam is not ravenously going through the fridge between meals...we may be on to something! She thinks her tummy is shrinking too. (Remember she was always on the chunk-e-side.)

*I know vinegar is on the fence with some paleo-experts, but I'm choosing to use balsamic and raw ACV for salad dressings.

I'm taking a slightly modified approach to this paleo thing like Hen23 ;)

That sounds fantastic and the fact that she isn't as ravenous is a great sign.

Before I went low carb I was losing weight on FIVE THOUSAND calories a day.

I couldn't afford myself. LOL.

This year (year 3 on the diet), for the first time, my weight holds steady at 2500 calories. I do better on 3K but sometimes I just cannot eat that much!!! But if I drop to 2000 a day for a week, I only lose a few pounds. I don't lose 15 and then get sick!!!

It's wonderful.

It's so nice to feel full and STAY that way. I'm sleeping through the night for the first time in my life. For a while I had to set my alarm every 2 hours to eat and if I missed one or slept through it I was in a low blood sugar zombie daze for hours and hours.

Thanks abi!

I'm hoping that by the time of her next ENT pre surgery consultation that enlarged lingual tonsil will have shrunk enough to not warrent surgery after all. (It is a very risky procedure.)

That visit is on Feb 19th, so you guys cross your fingers for us. :D

Thanks, I didn't know that. I don't use it except for cleaning around here. How about aged balsamic? (I know my raw ACV is ok.)
