Wow on the blessing!!

I second the slaw, for the cabbage. BBH posted an apple & cabbage slaw here that was really reat....if you can't find it let me know and I will search a little later. You may just want to try one jar of kraut...homemade is soooo much better than store bought, they may take to it :)

Cngrats on the windfall....I am curious how you are going to do the grape juice!

Those are surely some blessings, Pam! I usually shred the cabbage and freeze it. All my books say it can't be used for slaw after that, but you could make unstuffed cabbage rolls and throw it in soups. :D Of course, I'm sure the flock would appreciate it too!

Ended up with 9 quarts of grape juice canned up!

We are going camping this weekend. A friend of ours offered to let up pitch our tents on her site so it is saving us $50! The camp ground is having is having a Fall Camp Out and is having free hot dogs and chili on Friday night and a pancake breakfast Saturday morning. Plus they are having lots of games and prizes for the kiddos!

Ok, I am always amazed at what some people consider to be STOCKED UP!! LOL! My friend, Vicki, who is also into emergency prep and canning...and is a wonderful and generous lady....let me go pick over what was left in her garden and then showed me her new pantry. I have MORE leftover jars of canned goods from last year than she canned this year! Granted there is only 3 in her family and 8 in mine. But, my family would not survive a week on ALL of her food storage!

She also gave me a 1/2 gallon bag of marigold seeds and like 20 Zinnia heads for the seeds!! Some Holly hock seeds and Balloon flower seeds. Also some beans to dry for seeds. I want to plant my whole front side yard in Zinnias to cut flowers to sell from my mom's or MIL's house next year! That was a HUGE blessing! She said I could have some more too once more of the flowers start dying off!

My friend that I got pears off of last year said the frost got them this year and he did not get any....BUMMER! He is also giving me MORE sweet corn tonight! I think I am DONE with corn so I am going to go pick it and give it to the family with 7 kids. When I ran into her after I gave her the last two bags she said she could use some more. So why let the corn go to waste??

My DH is majorly frustrating me!!! He had an accident Friday while driving home from camp. The kids and I stayed the night. He had to work on Saturday so he did not. On the way home he SMASHED into a guard rail! SAME EXACT spot he just had repaired two weeks ago from when the trailer piece came off some guy's truck and got him. The part that frustrates me.....he says it probably would not have happened if he had good tires. UGH!! I feel like he JUST replaced his tires....which when I told my mom she thought the same thing. Anyways I saw his tires last night and the front tires were BALD! He has $120 saved up from sound system/concert gigs. Why didn't he go out and at least get the front tires done?? And hello! I just bought a BRAND NEW sewing machine! If we have the money for that then we have the money for more important things like tires!! He rode to work and back out to camp...about 3 hours total driving...on the tire after the wreck. THEN last night when we got home he put one of the rear tires on the front and put a DONUT on the back! When I went to bed I casually asked him if he was going after work to get the tire taken care of. He wasn't sure! Ummm...how far are you supposed to drive on a donut. Only like 50 miles he said. Ummmm....It is 55 miles ONE WAY to work and you are not sure you are going to go after work and get it taken care of????
Do you see my frustration??
So I gave him the riot act! I felt like I was a mother chastising her child for not doing something right! Like where did his common sense go?? I don't know if it is his depression meds he is on or what. I was trying to think this morning about when was the last time he has actually taken care of anything around the house. The goat fence and he rototilled the garden in the spring is all I could think of. My older boys have really taken on a lot of the responsibilities lately. He has been running off to concert/sound system gigs nearly every chance he gets.
The last accident was $1400 in damage. This damage LOOKED worse but it was actually more centralized in area. He talked to his buddy at church yesterday about helping him fix it so he does not have to make ANOTHER insurance claim (oldest wrecked the van like 2 months ago) to the tune of $500, thankfully! He called a local auto wrecking place and they had the tire rim for $25 and quarter panel (??) for $150 dollars and the color is a near exact match!! I told DH if it comes out anywhere near $500...like $700 or less...to just have his buddy help him fix it instead of making another insurance claim.

Amber, my goat, is not feeling real good. He poop is mushy and she is eating but not all of her food, leaving just a little bit in her bowl. She is kind of slow and moping around. I dried her off two weeks ago because I was only getting a 1/4 of a cup milk. Lilly is doing great! So, I am not sure what is wrong with Amber.

I started cleaning the house today! It has been a MESS!! We had some laundry left to do before we went on vacation and then the laundry from when we went ON vacation two weeks ago. We were gone all this weekend. Then we started school right after we got back from our vacation and doing tons of canning lately. I feel like my house is just falling apart! I still have my sewing all over the one table and I feel like I have not made any progress on that! The kids rooms are a MESS! I just want to go through and pull EVERYTHING out of each room and then decide what is going back in and what is not so that it will be easier for them to keep it clean.

I have NO IDEA where to put all of the jars I canned up this year! (I am not even done with canning for the year!) DH has not built the wall unit yet and my pantries are packed to the gills! We already have canned goods in closets and under beds! LOL!

The kids and I had an absolutely wonderful time camping this past weekend! There was dinner provided for Friday night and breakfast Saturday morning. I just had to bring lunch and dinner for Saturday and we had leftovers for lunch on Sunday. My friend let us pitch our tents on her permanent site and then took us out on her boat Sunday. My 13 yo won a basketball at the BINGO game. The kids got some candy in the costume parade. They had a bounce house, cotton candy and popcorn, kids games, and crafts, and boat rides all for free on Saturday! The kids caught a like 20-25 fish on Sunday afternoon when we were out on the boat for like 2 hours...6 were keepers. I swear no one else on the lake can catch as many fish as the kids can! LOL! 5 yo DD still reigns as the Fish Catching Queen! I swear her line was not in the water 5 seconds and she was screaming "I got one!" Kathy could barely keep up with baiting hooks and taking fish off of the lines!! The kids were literally flinging fish up onto the boat!

:barnie DH finally got home around 9PM...$1300 later!!!!!! :th And the care is STILL DAMAGED!!! Yeah, that is right! He went to Pepboys and got new tires and he better of got an ENTIRE new under carriage for that price! I am really not sure what all he got done but I do know that the main portion of the damage is still there! Sigh.... I am trying not to be frustrated, even though his good friend from church told him he would help him fix everything on his car! He just refused to take it over there and have him help him! This is a guy who is a computer geek that has made some $$ and has his entire garage outfitted like a regular commercial repair garage and lets anyone from church go over and use it! So DH would not have been imposing! But, whatever! :duc
He walked in the door and told me how much damage it was... I said "HOW MUCH?" The phone rang and I went outside to talk on the phone and he was in bed by the time I came back in. So I am sure it probably saved us from having a LOUD discussion!

Uggg!!! Sounds like you had a crazy weekend. It's so hard catching up somethimes.

Sorry about the car. I can imagine your Dh is probably embarrassed but the wreck in the first place. I am sure just getting it fixed at Pep Boys was easier for him to deal with.

The cost sure sucks.

Yesterday we went through my girls bedrooms. Did just what you said. I had a trash bag in one had and a Goodwill bag in the other. I didn't ask their opinion mostly I just started separating things out. They have so much that it gets frustrating. I do admit my little ones closet is full of a bunch of my stuff. I keep photo albums and stuff in there. So out my stuff went to make more room for hers. Now I just need a place to put my junk. :barnie

I am really happy to her your canning season has gone so well. I did not get as many veggies put up as I would have liked. I did do a bunch of tomato and such. Maybe I can find some bargains at the farmers market next weekend.

Well good luck on the laundry. I know how that goes.

Hi. Just catching up on your journal. $1300 for 4 tires? Wow. DH just ordered 4 Goodyear tires for my Chrysler Pacifica with good beefy treads for the winter rains and light snow. Ordered them on line, and paid $525 delivered. Then it cost $50 cash to have the four of them put on down at a little private auto shop. We kept the old tires cus they have to charge us $20 per tire to recycle them here in CA. We'll try to sell the 4 of them for $20, and they are not bald.

Oh, and I submitted a rebate for $80 for the tires to Goodyear. Waiting for the check.

Love your sewing btw! :)
