Today I am planning on doing APPLES, APPLES, and MORE APPLES! I got 3 100# feed bags 3/4 full and one 5 gallon bucket of apples to can up. For free of course! I plan on canning up applesauce, pie filling, and cider. I am going to use up the last of my half gallon jars for the cider/juice.
A friend of mine from church (that gave me the dozen half gallon jars) gave me another 2 dozen quart jars this past week. She also gave me a dozen mayo jars but I am still not sure if I want to use them. She said she pressure cans with the mayo jars up to 5 pounds of pressure! She is also going to sell me 4 dozen jars for $2.25 a dozen on Wednesday! Her DH is trying to talk her into selling a LOT of jars and so far she is not wanting to part with them.
I think I still have another bushel of tomatoes out in my garden that I need to turn into chili. I also need to dig up the other three rows of potatoes. I got two 5 gallon buckets worth out of the two rows we already dug up.
As soon as I am done with the apples I need to sew, sew, sew! My oldest has his FCF camp out on Wednesday and I have not got anything finished but 2 pairs of mittens! Tomorrow he is going to my MIL's for the day to cut wood all day. I feel like he is not going to get much schoolwork done this week. But, then I remind myself that canning season will be over soon and we will be huddled in the house for the long winter months and he can do some extra work then.

I just have this feeling like I need to can all of the food I can get my hands on and I do not want to leave any jars setting empty! I think I might go to a pick your own farm and get some pears and do up a couple bushels of them if I have some left over empty jars. My pantries and freezer is packed to the gills right now and it is coming up on deer season and I have 4 roos I need to send off to freezer camp.

I feel like I have so much to do and all I want to do is crawl into bed because I have a dull headache!

We are also trying to decide if we want to buy a truck and camper off of my parents. My mom will need the money for an expense that could be coming up soon and we kind of need...more like want...a truck to haul wood and pull our trailer with. I am really wanting a camper for three years from now when my oldest turns 18 so he can stay in it in our side yard. He can have his 'own' place to live yet still be debt free and home. The truck and the camper are both in a nice clean condition. Plus we can make payments to my mom.

P.S. It was the brakes, tires, front end alignment and I think some tie rods for the $1300 price tags....I think! LOL!

Ok, time to get busy!

Apples sound so good right now. I really need to go to the orchard and get some. We are completely out of all apple products. I know what you mean about not having anywhere to put canned goods. We have them lined up along the table right now. I feel like I've canned so much and still not sure if it's going to get me through the year. Made a remark to a friend that I had only done 20qts of whole tomatoes this year to have a co-worker snort "only". More than what she would've ever thought about doing. Kinda wonder what she would've done if I'd said that there was almost 50qts of sauce:)

23 quarts of applesauce and 2 1/2 gallons of apple juice canned up! My pie filling will have to wait until Thursday to get done. I have a ton of sewing to do the next two days!

Well, buying my parents camper and truck are out. I was thinking $5K for the pair and they are (according to what I could find on the internet) worth about $5K EACH. That is way out of my price range.

I found this cool video and it put into action what I thought about in my head...only better! LOL! It is a video on how to heat water for an outdoor shower. I was thinking of having a board or something and stringing the hose along it and then putting compost on top of it. But in this video it says they string the hose throughout the pile. The compost heats the water up to 160F and they had to add cold water to it in order to use it!

I ran this idea past DH and he actually thought it was a neat idea!! I couldn't believe it! I was thinking it would be really cool to run a hose out and put it up in the middle of the orchard we have started behind the garden. It would water the trees and then run off into the garden! Hmmm....the chances of ACTUALLY getting him to build it are???? Slim and none?? Maybe I can talk my oldest into making it for me next summer! He would just need the wood for real walls!

Ahh...to many ideas floating around in my head all the time!

I am trying to get some of my friends and family to go in on a bulk order of Tattler reusable canning lids with me but I am thinking that maybe I am better of just paying a few cents more and just getting the amount I want instead of trying to take orders and distributing them and collecting the money. I guess I will give it a few days and see what kind of response I get.

I saw that video last year. It's around here somewhere. Such a great idea. I received a big pile of mulch free from a tree service last month. It took me a good couple weeks to get to the middle. It was already steaming. While dh and I pitchforked I told him all about this system. I wish I had a place near my house to try it out.

Hows the sewing going??

Ummm...yeah the sewing....ummm....yeah I haven't been doing that! LOL! I don't know why I am avoiding it. I am still stuck at the collar so maybe that is my hang up. I do NEED to get busy on it or my DS will be very disappointed. He is not leaving until tomorrow evening so there is still time left right???
