ok folks, as things move forward...(all be it slowly and rather painfully lol)
im moving forward in my head...
still mabe prematurley, got to get through inspection first (or at least my well water has to be safe and potable if nothing else)

but anyway.

the house has around 2 1/2 acres, and alot of it is weedy grass thats not been looked after and ANTS, i didnt take the time to pick one up, but they were small and black and looked like the little sugar ants we have here in ct and not like the fire ants ive been told to watch for...but still, the ants almost destroyed my lawn here so thats a problem i want to take care of quickly...

so im thinking our first livestock addition will be guinnie hens, i havent had much experience with them, the zoo i worked for had them and i swore id never keep guinnies after a few times working them...no joke it was absolutly ridiculous, ive never met such a bunch of dumb critters in my life...but i realize alot fo that was a misunderstanding of the animals...id never been around them before and it was insisted to me that there "just like chickens" but im used to frinedly chickens who knwo who brings the food...guinnies are NOT like chickens, they are much less domesticated, much more flighty and now i understand that i think i have a better feel for them.
and in their defence, they are amazing bug patrol (the zoo had them specifically for tick control but im told they love all bugs, including fire ants!)

so i think the first thing im going to do is build a little make shift brooder in the doored section of the garage (theres electric in there) but how many chicks should i get for the best coverage of 2 1/2 acres, i dont want too many and was thinking 6 would be a good number

while they are "in the brooder" ill be boxing in a section of the shelter on the back of the garage (which will be the barn) that will be their night time coop, nothing too fancy or anythign because i know, once there aclimated to the land, they wont be spending much time in it. they wil be free ranged and i hope, while there very young to train them that bell = supper time so i can get them back in their coop at night, there are trees on the property for them to roost in if they dont come home (onces settled of course, they wont be allwed out untill there used to where home is) but im hoping ill be able to lock them in at night.

so do you think 6 guinnies would be enough for 2 1/2 acres, eventually there will be more critters on the land and i want the guinnies to be relitivly self sufficient for most of the year so while i want the ants under control relitivly quickly, i also dont want to have so many guinnies that they whipe out the local bug population in a week lol.

*shudder* Guinnies are gross. They are half dinosaur and will break into your house and eat your face while you sleep. Im certain of it.

well the good news is i do know guinneas are tastey...(ive eaten guinnie and its just like most other poultry) so if they do start to try and break in my house, ill at least have a deacent amount of meat when i off em all lol.

i do however agree that they are part dinosaur and not in any way shape or form pretty...

however if they do a job and do it well, i can overlook the odd looks.

(its weird though cause while im not a big fan of guinnies, i LOVE vulturines which are simply a realy cool tropical form of guinnie, they realy do look like dinos!

Hope the inspection goes well.
You might get a few extra Guineas to make sure the bugs are dealt with fast, then process the extras.

looks like the inspection is going to be wednesday, which means by friday of next week i should know if somethings going to hold this whole thing back any.

the logistics of moving with all the critters hit me last night...

the dogs are easy, they have a car seat and are great in the car...
but the other animals. jack jack the parrot will get set up in one of the dogs crates, a perch some bowls, some toys, i think hell be ok.
the linnies can go in a smaller cage for traveling and they too should be fine...
willow is small enough to go in a normal kennel cab with a small bo for a litterbox and a blanket...
tempi is going to be fun, im thinking of setting her up in the other dog crate with a small litter box and a blanket, shes very likely going to need to be mildly sedated for the entire trip.

the difficult part is, where to say...

i cant make a 15 hr drive straight through, so theres going to be probably 2 overnights (one in virginia and one in tn) that im thinking camping or truck stop sleeping in my car would be good ideas, primitive camping is fine but means ive got to figure out a smaller tent and either a good air matress or a small camp cot, the critters will be fine sleeping in either the car or a tent as long as there secured, so im not worried there...

my worry however is closing day...

see the idea is, being gas is so expensive and money is so tight i make 1 trip down there, i go down a couple of days before closeing (so i literally end up in nashville for closing day), then close, get the keys and head to the house imediatly after closing.
the moving truck will pick up my stuff form home the day of closing day giving me a couple of days to get the floor done before my stuff arrives...

the problem is...what to do with the animals during the closing?!

i cant leave them all in the car for however long it takes, itll be tn in the beginning of july...

so im thinking of mabe finding a pet friendly motel/hotel place (i know motel 6 is "pet friendly") arriving in nashvill the afternoon before closing, and seeing if theyd be willing to do a late check out...
that way i could leave the animals in the room while closing, and not worry about them quite so muhc, then pick them up after closing to head tot he house...

its the only way i can thong of that this will realy work cause i cant leave them in the car...

is it sad that im more worried about the animals being alone than i am about anything else right now?! lol.

traveling down for closing then home to pick everythign up then back to tn is out of the question, its too expensive...and i do have to be present...so...

ok..
utilities should be being turned on over the next couple of days to get the inspections done...
im on pins and needles waiting at this point, i cant see anythign huge comming up, but that waterpump issue has me realy edgy about it because if i cant get the water checked...well hud wont give me any kind of allowances after sale lol.

possibly figured out the whole what to do with the critters for closing day issue...
motel 6 is pet friendly AND has potential for late check out...

my sister may come with me too which means at least the animals wont be alone in the room, if not though ill just ask for ground floor as far form the main office/active rooms as possible just to be sure if they do put up a fuss being alone it wont bother other folks enough to be a real issue...it would only be for a couple of hours so *fingers crossed* so i can do it either way...i can camp on the way down there and then after closing go pick everyone up and head to the house for the first night :)

*hopes*

so im going to call my mortgage guy now, let him know whats going on and what i need to send his way to finalize now the offer has been officially accepted, least that way i can gather it all together and get it there by the end of the week (around the same itme i should know if the inspection shows anything major to give me need to back out)

filling my days with the gym, garden stuff and running my mum round, shes still on driving restrictions because of her rotator cuff surgery and not being able to go back to work has her going insane too lol.

so todays plan is dressed, gym, run mum to walgreens, then this afternoon if this breeze stays, got some stuff to do in the garden, including some weeding in the veggie beds.

ok some news and i need some thoughts/opinions...

my agent whent out to the house today to make sure everyhtings present and accounted for and can be turned back on without any issues...

1: the well issue isnt an issue, theres no pump because theres no well...
this is where im a tad worried now...

aparently the house is spring fed, the same spring feeds this house, the neighbors house and the one across the street (the neighbors house and the one across the street are both owned by the same family (mother and son) and origionally this one was too...

now, theres concern that in the summer theres sometimes not enough water to feed all 3 houses.

the plan would be to have a well dug...now assuming i go ahead with all this i would get a well dug eventually, but i dont think i can afford the upfront cost straight away, i dont know exactly how deep the well would need to be dug or what kind of cost would be involved, but eventually i would absoulty have this done. (spring is better water, but having a well would better ensure me getting enough of my own water...)
anyone in tn have any clue about how much a foot for a well and how deep youd typiclaly need to go, the house is in wayne county...

but what do i do untill i can afford that well dug?

i can buy in bottled water for drinking, but what about if i need a shower or to do dishes, dont want to be stuck in a situation where im waterless because the spring is dry.

im pretty good about water conservation in general for toilet and such...but still i dont want to ever be in a situation where im mid shower and nothing...

im planning on doing alot of rain barrel set ups for livestock/watering the veggies eventually anway, but im worried about shower/dishes/toilet lol.

problem #2 isnt realy a problem as such but is kinda apain in the tuckus.
the house is, according to the neighbor, PROPANE, theres no propane tank, and i cant see where the propane tank would have been, but aparently it is propane...
now cooking and everything else is all electric (and theres room on the breaker box to expand...) but im trying to decide if it would be worth getting a new tank and runnign my ehat off propane, or if i should try and talk my parents into giving me one of their pellet stoves, it runs electric but is very efficient...downside is id have to buy, haul and store pellets every year...its a bigger initial cost, but then again so is having a tank refilled...

im more worried about the water situation...
does anyone have any thoughts, input ect on that situation?

the good news is, spring fed means no well inspection LOL!

my agent is also going to try and save me some money (as the electric meter is missing) and see if the inspection can be done by generator...in this case its not me paying for a new meter and the hook up only to find out the house is falling down...
ill have to have the meater put on when i move in...but at least i dont have to pay for that out of pocket right now, and if the water issue does become a deal breaker, at least im not paying for a new meter that ill never get to use!

HELP!

One thought about the propane...its possible that the tank is on a rental basis only, hence the reason for no tank at the moment.
The inspector can find out if it really is propane for you.
