busy busy indeed lol
got our first banty peep hatch out today, and my satin angora doe primrose finally used her nest box (she decided to have her last batch allover the wire) 7 wiggly white kits in her box.
still got a litter due from clover and then that's it for 2 weeks (when willow and my young doe holly should be due)
got rex due in 1-2 weeks too...keeping the babies coming until it gets too hot.

and hot it was, was worried I almost lost some angora babies today they got very overheated but I moved them to the shadeyest spot possible and soaked the ground around the cges nd the tarps on the roofs...evaporation does help a little im told but I def have to get a cooling situation in place for them.
gnna pick up some PVC pipe and caps an make some chiller tubes (they chew through frozen bottles too quickly) and im thinking of possibly even moving them into the barn...but we'll see...mabe once I get the roof situation sorted the added shade will help.

anywho.
had pool time this evening, that was nice...and now getting sleepy so time for a mindless game on facebook and sleep.

Have you ever used chilled tiles for the bunnies?

I used the tiles in TN and loved them, but here im very limited in terms of freezer space and 24 large clay tiles is heavy and takes up a lot of room
ive seen some designs for PVC chillers though (PCV pipe glued and capped filled with rocksalt and water) they apparently stay colder longer than tiles and 2liter bottles and very difficult to chew through (My issue with using the plastic bottles) and since you can make them as long or short and from whatever diameter youd like I think I can make them a little more compact, thinking of making them just the right tlength to fit in one of those plastic shoeboxes since those boxes are easy to stack and keep everything contained when I steal a spot in my parents chest freezer
once we get the fridge set up in the barn (itll be for colostrum, meds, quick chilling milk when the goats start milking ect) ill move them up there...and eventually I want to add a 2nd chest freezer for meat anyway, but right now gotta do what I can with very limited space lol.

id rather not move them into the barn either.
im also thinking once I get proper roofs on them thatll help something with a good overhang to provide lots of shade without blocking airflow like the tarps can do.
im also looking into solar powerd fans, portable, don't need to run power cords all over the place and im sure a breeze would help.

My mother-in-law used to raise guinea pigs and what she did when it got too hot was set up a hose on the shed roof with just a trickle of water. It helped quite a bit, but during the hottest time of year, she would also hang burlap from the roof to hang down in front of the cages; the water on the roof would also wet the burlap, making an improvised swamp cooler for them. Of course, this was in CA, which doesn't have the high humidity you might have, so it worked really well. I think the solar powered fans sound like a great idea as well.

I thought about a drip system but were on a well with hydrant that's got lots of power...no "trickle" feature lol (I tried it with a diverter and it blew the diverter lol, so would require investing in a heavy duty metal one to control flow lol)
I do spray the tops of the cages and the horse during the day and the ground around the cages, but I def thing airflow will be the key.
prim is eing a great momma, clover still hasn't popped or pulled fur...hoping for tonight, todays day 34 for them...

I did take 4 banty cochin chicks off their mommas and into the brooder today, 2 hens decided the 4 would be enough and left their nests lol so im hoping removing those babies will encourage them to get back to work and finnish up.
my original broody girl is still sitting tight theres 9-12 eggs left under her currently and 3 outside the box that the other 2 seem to be taking turns on.

got buns going home on weds, more going home next Monday, another uner deposit just need to sort out a date after the 14th...hoping the momentum gets going.
need to secure the funds for the mini Nubian doe I like that's in milk. shes still available and they will deliver to the exit neer our house if I want her...shes apparently good on the stand too...but I don't have a stand yet and would obviously need to build one. which I think can be done pretty easily if I can get the supplies home lol.

oh well time to go put the babies to bed, then I think im going to get settled down with a cup of coffee and a movie mabe

im sure it will...cant rain all the time!

today I id my good deed...saw gypsy "playing" with something in the grass neer the rabbitry...
quick trip to the top of the hill and shes got a fledgling blackbird...Amazingly the little guy was relitivly unscaved (and gypsy left it be when I told her) she managed to pull a wing feather but otherwise fine and dandy...
I know exactly where the nest is but its up high in a big spruce tree and I cant get to it, so I put him on the ground in the bushes behind the rabbitry fence. he should be safe in there while he figures out his wings, and close enough to the nest that the parental units should continue to tend him (they will continue to feed grounded fledgelings as long as its safe)
cute little guy, shouldn't be grounded long, he was well feathered.

spent today doing very little...got pedigrees for the bunnies going home tomorrow and Thursday one...still need to write out Saturdays pick up...(angora) and then spent the rest being pretty dang lazy.

we are at 6 banty babies in the brooder now...another 12 eggs in the coop I belive

and yeah..
going to ct tomorrow on the bunny run with my sister, since she cant stay overnight she asked me to come for company and we'll go to the palisades mall on the way home...so figure sure why not.
