well took another meander around my backwoods lol...
figured id take some pictures of the land where roofing supplies go to die...

we start our journey by climbing over "the great wall" ok so its not realy so great, only about 2 1/2 ft tall but its pretty solid...yup you guessed it, made entirely of roofing shingles and plastic tarps...
house003.jpg

many of the smaller piles look much like this one
house002.jpg

piles of "new" shingles straight off the pallet that hav elong since been forgotten

the remains of a once proud little shed, lays in ruins just over the great wall, perhaps the victim of an epic battle, long since forgotten...
house001.jpg

im pretty sure i can salvage much of the wood that remains from this one.

we venter deeper into the brushland, traversing random piles of mass dumped roofing shingles, plastic tarps and trash we suddenly come across this...
the asphalt tile road...
its kinad like the yellow brick road...
only its not yellow...or made of bricks....
Instead a random mass of asphalt shingles, tarps, plastic and old pallets (you cant tell from the picture but this fairly flat path is actually about 3 1/2 ft above ground level LOL)
house009.jpg

and where would such a path lead?
"the barn"
house011.jpg

i wonder if perhaps once the great wizard lived there...long since forgotten after he returned dorothy home, leaving the place to be consumed by leaves and brush.
it doesnt look like much from the outside...

house015.jpg

ok so it doesnt look ike much from the inside either...but considering the 3 other little sheds on the property this one is fabulous! lol, its structually sound...and im seriously hoping salvagable!
there used to be power to it as well!

the only sign of its once former glory

venture off the path
as you follow a little ditch (either a water run off path or a deer path) it leads you into this clearning, surrunging most of it is a bank about 4 1/2-5 ft tall of dirt and a ring of trees, the last section of the circle is then Dammed up with a 4 1/2 ft tall wall of asphalt shingles
the clearing itslef has potential to be a beautiful little spot for a secret garden or potentially a good spot for a small barn, once i make a path to it that doesnt involve hiking the great asphalt mountain range...
its in a little hollow, but its been raiing pretty deacent and the area wasnt wet or anything....

house023.jpg

i think the deer have been living there...and mabe a fox or other larger burrowing critter...because this

house022.jpg

is in the dirt embanklment on the oposite side of the "dam" the main hollow is about 3ft long by about 1ft tall and theres 2 large (basketball) sized den entrances inside it...

once you get past the asphalt shingle road, the property actually becomes much easier to traverse, its alot of brush growth but its spaced out enough that its fairly easy to get around most of it

theres LOTS of shingles though...

oh and theres a pile of scrap metal back there too, old roofing...gonna try and salvage what i can for use for roofing, but will send to scrap anything too far gone.

thats just a small corner of the property...im hoping the back area that wouldnt be quite so easy to get to for dumping is in better shape in terms of scrap, but its long grass and thick brush that ive not yet goten round to machettying my way through to get to it...

oh and plant folk...
can anyone id this plant

house024.jpg

some kind of privet? its what most of the brush back ther is, very woody and loaded with those tiny purple berries (no ive no plans to go eating them lol) im thinking its japanese privet, mabe?

3 goats can clean a acre in 6 weeks so it really shouldn't take long. I let my goats clear our property the same way, then we went in and cut some of the larger underbrush and small trees we didn't want to keep. It worked out really well. I think you'll be amazed at what those animals can put away!

Hey, you could salvage some of those shingles for your goat shed. I'd also build a little balance beam for them to climb and play on and cover it with shingles to keep their hooves trimmed down a bit. Goats love to climb! Cover the milk stand with shingles too to make it slip resistant.

It's not wisteria-wrong branching pattern. It's not one I'm familiar with, but it could be Japanese privet.
