Thanks, guys. I used to do alot of scrapbooking, so I still have many supplies.
I make these on my own, then take them to meetings. If there is a particular need, we all sign and send it out.
I don't buy store bought cards anymore. During the cold months, I try to make up all the birthday, anniversary or whatever I'll need. It's just something fun that I like to do.
It is often those little things, like your card making, that save us lots of money and give us such a great quality of life. If more people would try it and see how fun it is, they too could stop paying $3.00 or more for a cold commercial card!
Today, I am one of those sad people that can't even remember occasions in time to give cards.
I even stopped Christmas cards! Just too busy. (?)
When the kids were little we used to make our own Christmas cards to mail out. We saved cards we received the year before and the kids cut them up. Then we used stickers, crayons, magazine pictures, the old cards etc.. to make new cards on some nice heavy card stock that I cut and folded to fit the envelopes. The kids really had fun and the people on our card list each got a nice unique card for Christmas.
.....Of course our cards were not nearly as pretty as the ones you make.
I bought a sewing machine today. I want to learn how to sew. I have some things in mind to give as gifts, and I can make them more cheaply than I can buy them.
And, wouldn't ya know it - our Walmart no longer stocks material or patterns. Now, I'll have to go out of town for that.
With this in mind, I dropped into the Goodwill store . . . again. Found some curtain toppers that I want to turn into BBQ napkins.
I finally went through the boxes that I got at the seed store. There is some really good stuff in there that I will definitely use. Lots of perfectly good 6 packs, 4 packs and 3 packs.
My 16 year old dog, Shadow is really looking bad. He is soooo skinny and I haven't noticed him eating for a few days. He won't even take his rymadil wrapped in cheese. I'm sure he senses that his time here is ending. I told him yesterday that he has been a great dog and it's OK to go on. It's time. He doesn't seem to be in pain, so that's good.
Still putting up with alot of nasal congestion. I blow my nose about every hour. And, believe me, it isn't pretty.
Hope you are feeling better and hopefully Shadow will go peacefully... My mom lost her 17 yr old terrier mix last year and she was so upset...it really is like losing a child. It is just a comfort to know that they aren't suffering anymore.
Sounds like you got your first sewing project set up - handkerchieves.
Hope you feel better soon.
This works to clear up stuffiness..
Anti-Viral Eucalyptus spray
30 drops eucalyptus essential oil
4 ounces distilled water
Put both in a fine mist spray bottle and shake well before using. Eucalyptus oil kills airborne viruses and clears the sinus passages. Use the mist often when feeling congested or when exposed to colds and viruses. Keep a bottle handy to spray on pillow, hands, phone in the office or car.
Thank you for the mist recipe. Is eucalyptus oil available at health food stores? If not, where else would I find it?
The drainage is alot better today. I must say that I can't stand the thought of using a hankie. I know, I know, not very SS. I have to have my kleenex.
I hope you feel better soon. You sound like me with blowing the nose. Seems that's all I've done today. Sure makes for a sore nose.
Our local Walmart did away with their craft department last year. I can get some at the hardware store in town, but most of the time I need to go 30-45 min. away.
Not very good news today. The paper mill that my DH contracts for decided not to renew our chip unloading contract for another year. The said something to the effect of "You've done a good job, blah, blah, blah, been there when we needed you, blah, blah, blah, don't see the need in the near future, blah, blah, blah. So, there goes a large percentage of our income. The did offer to buy the equipment we used, though. Just a question of if they will pay what it is worth. We do still have the wood crew, but it will be hard to make ends meet.
We have some trucks and trailers to sell and other equipment. It's just finding someone who can buy them at a fair price. I do know one thing for certain: there will be alot more belt tightening around here.
Now, on a lighter note . . . I got the towels that I cut from receiving blankets all stitched up. Very easy and best of all . . . quick. I don't think I did such a bad job. I am going to have to work on keeping my seams straight. Tomorrow, I might get a chance to work on the BBQ napkins that I plan on giving as a birthday present. It's not till July, so I got some time.
