Quail, what are the dimensions of this paddle of yours? I bruised my hand on my kids bony butt. (Yuck it up folks) He has a rebelious streak lately (since birth) that's around a mile long. I'm going to start using your discipline technique as NOTHING else works. For my daughter, time-outs seem to work (she's only 18 months old anyway) so it will not be used on her. I'm telling you guys, my son has the tenacity, courage and willpower to drive the fmost sane person crazy. I normally admire these traits but that is usually when it is combined with people that have self-discipline. PLEASE give me the measurements. Do you think plywood would work? It's all I have hanging around.

I honestly don't know if plywood would work? Our paddle is was just a left over piece of a 1x2 and might be 10 inches long? I dunno. I could take a pic???

A paddleball game without the ball works great. Kept me in line. The best are made of thin plywood.

Ya know, I've got a bit of 2x4 hanging around that I could probably strip down to use. I think it might be the right length but it'll need some of the depth removed and a "handle" created. Man, I never thought I'd be heading down this route but the day I bruised my hand was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Aiden, this may sound barbarous, but a long hot-glue stick works quite well. No bruises on the kid and you only need a light tap to get the message across. They sting something fierce, but don't hurt. As in injure. Plus they fold up to fit in a back pocket. Tossed my paddle after I found these.
:D I like the way QA disciplines her kids too.

Oooooh QA, my SIL would love Emily. She just got a minature donkey from her fiance. How far of a drive is it to Ohio... Stop! Its too far for a wedding present, thats how far.
Really nice setup you have.

Central Mississippi, where we have a long tradition of beating our kids

No seriously, I don't beat my kids. And it really is too far to drive, although Sam would love her. She's been a horse addict since she was itty bitty. Has her masters in Equestrian studies, teaches riding lessons and does therapeudic riding as well. Born in the year of the horse too, lol.

Forever work in progress? You mean it will never get finished? Oh my, I thought I came here to get hope for the future. :ep

When I say "forever work in progress" I mean, when we get one project finish, we manage to find another. ;)

For example, I have 3 chicken coops, and while we are re-doing the runs and making them nicer and more appealing to the eye, we are also working on extending our pasture field for our two calves and subsequent pony.

Extending our pasture is the big project right now. Peppered around that are several smaller projects...still working on the new front deck, have to put the wire back up for the duck run, and now we've got to choose a nice day to go get my Mandarin ducks, plus all the pens, posts, and wire the guy threw in with the package deal that Emily came with.

Plus, there's the garden to hoe, grass to mow, all the animals to feed daily, kids to feed, clothe, wash, spank on occassion...LOL...yea, there is always some thing to do or create or watch here.

Watch doesn't=Television.

I'm a little frustrated with a friend. They called last night, so I was telling them about Emily. Also told them we may have someone interested in buying her, even though she's blind in one eye and bred to a mini donkey.

My friend starts going on how "they've been wanting a mini donkey and I should keep Emily until she foals so they can have the baby."

I was a little taken aback, because the words were "you should keep her so..." and then they went on with their spiel.

Look, I'm not against helping a friend, but I was a little surprised that they just assumed if we decided to keep Emily that we just naturally wouldn't keep her baby, too. I didn't even say we'd sell the baby IF we did keep Emily.

I am wondering if I am being too sensitive, but I'm really uncomfortable with people who tell me what I should be doing, so that it benefits them.

This is mine and Ernie's farm, and I'm selfish enough to say, our needs to benefit our family FIRST before anything.

Anyhoo just needed to vent a bit. Sorry.
