Sorry about the losses. Any idea what it was?
Not really sure. My Pekin duck had his neck ripped out, and I found no marks on my Embden.

Sorry about your lost birds! It sounds like a coon to me.

No one wants to buy green or blue eggs around here either...only brown! Apparently if they are white they do not taste as good as brown too!

You noticed that, too? Some people down the dirt road from us have White Leghorns, because they wanted fresh WHITE eggs...they tried to sell their extra eggs for 75 cents a dozen, and no one would buy them! They can't even GIVE their eggs away!! :ep

I guess I have must weird egg clientele. :p They were heartbroken when Grace, our turquoise egg layer, died. Everyone around here has brown and white eggs; very few green or blue or shades in-between.

Often times a SKUNK will go for the neck. They eat the neck drink the blood and leave the rest.

About this time of the year they are feeding litters and want that extra protein or are teaching litters how to hunt. If the have the litter with them there will be NO SCENT or very very faint. That is how they hide the litter.

My dad had a litter of skunks under his three season porch, practically under his chair! No scent at all. He wouldn't trap them cause he liked to watch the babies.

Keljonma and her husband just left here about an hour ago. I spent the last hour settling down the chooks and petting the First Ladies good night, and rescuing my stray bantams who insisted on roosting with the First Ladies. Rachel was NOT happy with the miniature intruding chooks! My poor little Silkie Mumble was NOT happy to give up her favorite roost area, but she'll get over it

We had a nice visit with keljonma and her husband and cookout hamburgs on the grill. We had potato salad, corn, macaroni salad, cole slaw, and watermelon.

Becky also came out and joined us, and it was nice having her here to meet them, see the First Ladies, and have dinner with us. She provided the corn and watermelon and some of the hamburgs. She brought fig newtons for dessert, which my kids went nuts over.

We told keljonma and her husband that if they find a suitable place where the flock is able to move to, we would help move Sam and the First Ladies to their new home.

I'm praying they have a safe trip home.

I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked, as we were busy trying to help get the First Ladies set up comfortably, but I did snag a few.

The First Ladies, in the back of the Uhaul when they arrived at our place.

Maybe you need to rename your place "Camp David" - isn't that where the first ladies usually go to on retreat! :p

Nice pictures. Ernie is nice looking too.

Around here people go nuts for the assorted colors of eggs. They get $7.00 at the farmers market and they sell out!!! this one farmer has all different kinds of chickens, so the eggs are the from the dark dark brown to the blue, green and white all in one carton. We couldn't belive it, when we went there a few weeks ago.
