Wow, wethers are usually pretty calm. Didn't they have collars to lead by? If I had horns and someone did that I'd probably react the same way!

No no no no cameras! :gig

So the lady who was interested in buying one of the nanny's isn't going to be getting one. Her husband wasn't fond of the idea, and told her he wants her to wait until spring when they will be more prepared.

So, now I'm trying to decide, do I take them both to the auction next Monday, or should I keep them, let them kid out here, sell the kids and then use the mom's for milk? I'm thinking goat cheese, goat's milk soap.........I'm also trying to figure out why, when I've decided that I don't want goats, God keep sending me goats! Is he trying to tell me something??

We've decided to try to get another calf or two before spring. I also made a connection to get two piglets in January. They aren't born yet, but will be born in December and ready to go in January. E looked at the dog kennel pen today, and said if we tightened it up just a little bit, it will make a good hog pen.

So hmm...gotta think on that, because I really would like to raise my own pork.

Also, found out about a breeder of Large Black pigs here in Ohio, on the South West side. We're making plans to contact them and make some decisions on getting Heritage Large Blacks. E said they'll probably be expensive, but I replied that we don't have to just jump in and buy, we can research and save up to get that first pair. So, not something that I think will happen right away.

E's doctor appointment went well today. Dr said his leg is healing nicely. They were discussing antibiotics and the over use of them, and his dr mentioned how the meat bought in stores is loaded with anitbiotics and hormones. E told her we're raising our own beef, grassfed at that. She asked if we give shots or medicine, and E told her no. She then asked, and get this..."Do you advertise your beef or sell any grass fed beef/poultry?" :th E told her no, that we're raising for ourselves and our own use right now, but she was really pushing the idea on E to raise grassfed and to sell it locally. She said it's all she buys, and the local market really needs some naturally raised foods! We couldn't believe it!

So, it's something to think about. There aren't any local farmers that I'm aware of that are raising all grassfed/non-medicated beef. His Dr. today commented that everyone is soo quick to give the cows or whatever animal they are raising a bunch of shots or hormones when it's not needed.

Emmy the pony has still not sold. I have to think that there is a reason for that as well, as I feel that God has purpose to everything He sends our way. She's really changed since being here, and is now in the habit of coming to the gate/fence for her share of petting and rubbing. She gets extremely jealous if she thinks we're giving Chase and Boss more attention than her!

Thought I might be losing my Ameraucana pullet today. She wasn't acting herself. I went to get her out of the cage, and the snotty little Roo with her flipped her on her back, and beat the crap outta her! I've seen him trying to mate with her over the last few days, and she was having none of it. So, I moved her out of the cage and into the empty brooder space in the bantam coop. I think giving her some space to herself, and time, she will be Ok. I filled up a waterer and feeder for her. We'll see how she is in the morning.

I'm having a hard time figuring out where this year has gone! It's hard to believe that September is almost done and over. Wow!

I hope we don't sleep in until 10:30 tomorrow  I've a lot I want to get done tomorrow, and it starts with a trip to the feed store for some flock raiser!!

Glad to hear E is doing well. That sounds like a good doctor to have :D

So, pastured Large Black and more grass-fed beef next year?

:rant OK, I need to vent a bit, so here it goes.....

Emmy the horse is still here!!! :barnie

I had, count them now, at least FIVE people message me about her.

First off, she's not FREE!! I cannot afford to give her away. And I won't!

Second, DO NOT PM ME AND SAY YOU WANT HER AND THEN FOLLOW THAT UP WITH I NEED TO ASK MY HUSBAND FIRST?! OMG if you need permission from your spouse, uh, something bigger there than you wanting a horse and second, discuss that with them BEFORE you message me! I don't wanna hear a peep from you UNLESS you telling me, "Yes, we'll take her and we can pick up on xx day."

Third, DO NOT ASK ME TO HOLD HER BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND AND THEN NEVER GET BACK TO ME TO ARRANGE PICK UP!!!! This one just really ticked me off! I could have taken her to the auction on Monday!

Fourth, don't fill up my inbox telling me how beautiful she is, and oh how you wish you could get one because you always wanted one.

I badly want to update her for sale thread and say, "Hey, she's still available, don't message me unless you're serious about getting her because I don't like being jerked around and neither do you!"

It IS your journal...vent away! ;)

I can imagine that must be terribly frustrating. We went through a vaguely similar situation when we posted a couch on freecycle. I know its not exactly the same, but the inconsiderate twits can really get to me.

Are you doing a "LAST CALL - gonig to auction" update on the 'for sale' thread?

Hope the rest of your day goes better... :hugs Take some anger out on the chicken pen you're building.

Hey, Aly, I like the sound of that doctor. I might want her name if she is local. :) Hard to find a doctor that tells the truth about medicine and food.

If you can manage it, it would be interesting to see what comes from kidding the goats and trying the milking. I love goats milk. ;)
