OK - so I actually only have 4 geese, the other two are ganders :p

But, yesterday one of the Sebbies laid an egg - it was an obvious first egg as it was on the small-ish side, so I'm thinking it's a different goose than the one who laid on Monday.

Unfortunately, she had laid the egg outside on the snow, and I had not got out there in time - said egg was froze and broke.

This morning, when checking on everyone, I notice Zeus the Embden laying right smack in front of the door to his and Penelope's house. He wasn't letting me in, or near it, and well, one beating from him was enough - and I didn't have my beating stick with me. So, I walked around the outside of the kennel and peeked into the house's back window. There I saw a perfectly big - I mean huge - Embden nest, and there was Penelope sitting on it!

My peeping tom ways startled her, and she went running out - leaving behind a perfect goose egg!! :weee

just, if you're thinking geese - Go with Sebbies! Yes, the Gander hisses at me right now - protecting his gals because it's breeding season - but he has NOT initiated a beat down! He just hisses a small warning and herds his gals away.

Nice!

You are planning to hatch them all out, right
I do want to hatch some. I think I'm going to sell some eggs, too, though, as people are asking for them already.

I want to hatch some of both, to increase my flock size of Embdens and Sebbies.

Did ya'll know that Metzer Farms in California has the largest breeding flock of Sebastopols in the us with over 400 Sebbies?! :th

Yep, those nests are! I'm gonna see if I can sneak past Zeus (fat chance) and snitch some pics of the nest lol - if I don't come back - the gander ate me.

My potential poultry sale at the end of last month never came into fruition. Snow kept everyone homebound, and my customer was stuck in her own driveway.

She called and asked if she could come today and buy the birds that she was interested in, because she could finally get out of her driveway. We said sure, we'll be home.

My $80 poultry sale quickly turned into a $105 poultry sale! She added a guinea and our Blue Slate turkey hen - and I'll admit, I asked her for high end prices on the guinea and blue slate, because I really didn't want to sell those two - but she didn't bicker on the prices at all, and well, she had cash.

I wrote her a receipt - mostly to help me keep track of the sale - and wrote what she bought on the receipt and what she had paid in cash. She got a copy of the receipt and I kept one for my records.

Then she saw my call duck pen - no, she doesn't want call ducks, but she wanted to know if we'll be building pens like that, and if so, she would very much be interested in buying one!

So, we've gotta get cracking on building those pens!

I told ya'll, 2010 - it's our year to shine!!

Now, speaking of shine, the suns out - and I've got one rooster to cull and some pens to clean - so I'm heading out of doors!
