Oh, QA! Hugs for you and dd!! :hugs I am glad she told you; this has probably been quite a weight on her mind.

I had a great visit this week-end with you & Becca!! ...

Did Monroe heal okay? Did you take Stumpy to auction? How are the new Cuckoo Marans hens doing? I checked my notes when I got home - Peck IS the chatty one. :D How are Benny and Kellogg getting along? Is Tootsie doing well?

We had snizzle Sunday and yesterday.... today sunshine and 45. Hope you are getting some sunshine too.......

The new hens are settling in OK and Kellogg and Benny (that name has GOT to change) are pretty much just staying out of eachother's way.

Monroe is just fine. He was not sorry to see Stumpy go to the auction. We didn't stay to watch, so I'm not sure how much he went for.

I feel guilty trying to go on with normal farm stuff/life. Like if I just go about business as usual and let the authorities handle anything then I'm letting DD down - or that it's inappropriate.

but that's what I want to do. I want to go about farm stuff as usual, continue to live our lives, while praying that they throw the book at the jerk.

I don't want to spend all day thinking about it, or doing things/saying things that make my DD focus or think on it.

So we've spent most of today in our normal routine. School work, get water, collect eggs, feeding/watering, etc.

Now I'm going to be heading out to clean the call ducks out, and I am hoping to work on the hoop house and get it finished today. BLRW are going to go in it. I think.

Or maybe the Blue Orps.

I can't really decide.

Don't feel guilty about going on with day to day life....that is healthy for your DD. She needs to see that even though she trusted you enough to tell you something very difficult, that life isn't going to change. She needs the day to day routine and needs to wake up knowing what to expect for the day.

I would think that as close to normal as you can keep things the quicker and smoother her recovery will be.
:hugs

Quail, remember that children need the routines. It gives them a sense of security. So it is actually important, that you keep your life pretty much the same.
As long as you are dealing with the issue (which you are), it is healthy to go on with your life, have fun, laugh, be silly, enjoy your farm and love each other.

So how are your calves doing. I still cannot believe that you got them for $2 and $7. A $7 calf was a steal, but to get two more at $2 each is just amazing. Can I rub you, so some of that good luck can rub off, so I can get some goats or sheep for $2.00?

What they said. Business as usual signals to the kiddos that it will be ok. That even if there is a problem, life goes on.

Keep your chin up, you all will make it through this. :hugs

We actually started tube feeding Goliath - the smallest calf - on Sunday and had given him some scour meds. He didn't pull through, and we lost him Monday morning.

We buried him today.

We got a good bit done today. Kids got lessons done, Ernie built a nesting box for me to try out in the bantam coop. We got it hung and there's already a hen on it. We're hoping to sell these nesting boxes online. I took pictures, and will get them uploaded in a bit. This nesting box didn't require any heavy lifting on Ernie's part, and he enjoyed making it. Some of the pieces were recycled materials, but a good bit of it were new materials.

But, like I said, I'm taking the first one for a test run in my own coop, see how they hold up, before we start advertizing them for sale.

Also cleaned out the call ducks water and gave them fresh. boy were they happy.

cleaned up part of the yard and moved the hoop house to the spot that's probably going to be permanent residence for it. Hope to finish it tomorrow.

Collected a lot of eggs.

Now we're making a simple dinner and maybe go outside for a bit more.

Baby boy has discovered a whole new world with this warm weather - as last year he was really too small to be too aware of his surroundings. This year, he's into it - especially the animals. He made several trips to see the cows today with his Daddy. On one of those trips, our dog Zoe went with them, and this was the resulting pic.

That baby boy and the pup should be the NEXT pow!! How adorable! I want to pinch those chunky cheeks! :love

FD, I love your photo too!

QA, I agree with everyone else. You are doing the right thing, you have a great motherly instinct. :)

Sorry to hear one of the calves didn't make it. :(
