Did the one Marans hen with bad feet go to auction this week? Or are you trying to heal her first?

I wish we had a chicken set up here (still not set up yet.... :( ). I would take The Ladies and the Dominiques from you.... they seem to be a wonderful breed - if I can go by our history with Abigail.... ;)

well.. your saying we did that, we went there.. did your hubby had you on a leash? with a muzzle?:D was it the same place you bought your 2$ calves? if it was, they must have been shocked to see you there, not buying anything.

We went to TSC last night and passed up chicks AND ducks!!! Lots of restraint....that and not the breeds I wanted anyway :D

So why are you getting rid of all the rabbits?

kel, the Marans hen with the bad feet went to Roger's last Friday. The two pullets I sold yesterday were younger gals that just didn't grow the way I would have liked and were not suitable for breeding.

The pair of Doms we have are wonderful - er - she is anyway. The roo just loves the gals a little too much. He's on everything with feathers and two legs!

yes, OFG, I didn't buy one thing - and it's still me. I had priorities, see - we went to Meyer's today, so I was fixated on that and I didn't want to squander any precious pennies at Auction yesterday.

And yea, I know, right?! $3.10 for fence posts!! and they were locusts posts, too!

rty007 - no leash or muzzle! actually, I was at the front of the crowd, up close to most of the action, and could have bidded on anything I wanted - I just didn't want. E was waaay in the back gabbing with some other guy like they were a couple ol' biddies.

lori - the rabbits are like dead weight. I only seem to see rabbit sales peak this time of the year - right before Easter. The rest of the year I'll only get $1-$3 per bunny at Auction, and maybe $5 out right, but if they aren't having babies, there's nothing to sell. If they're not at least paying for their own feed, I cannot afford to keep them.

So bye bye bunnies.

As it is, there will only be one rabbit left here by Friday, and that's the one that's going to my mom.

So, at Meyer Hatchery today I picked up six Black Copper Maran chicks. I checked out their feet/legs right off to make sure that they were indeed feather legged like they are supposed to be - and they are! whoot! they are very cute.

I bought NO extra chicks, either. My self control the last few days is astonishing even to me! I bought nothing at Auction on Friday, bought Nothing at Auction on Monday, and I didn't buy any chicks other than what I had ordered!!

Yay me!!

I did spend a couple extra dollars buying a cardboard brooder guard today, but that's for the outdoor brooder. It was 31 cents a foot, so I bought enough to make a 15 foot diameter circle brooder. DH was excited because that means no more brooding in the house - I can brood them out in the feed barn now.

Today I came home to find the Roman Tufted Gander trying to mate my Welsh Harlequin Duck!!!!!!!!!!! He had her smashed into the ground!!! By the time I got to her, he had ripped feathers out of her head behind her right eye, her right eye is watery and red, and she couldn't stand up or get her feet under her. :hit

I took her out of the pen and placed her in a strawed down dog crate inside the feed area of the chicken barn. She's already showing signs of getting better, was sitting up rather than laying on her stomach, and is able to get her feet under her. Her eye is still red and watery, but I think she's going to recover.

I'm so mad at that gander! But it's my own fault, I just never dreamed a goose would try to jump a duck like that.

So, the Khaki drake I had with my WH will go to Rogers on Friday, and if my WH recovers I'll give her to Becca for her flock of WH. If she wants her, that is.

The Blue Swed is still not laying, so looks like that pair will go to Rogers, too.

So as far as ducks go, looks like it's going to be mallards, scovies, Magpies, and rouens for me (not counting the calls). My rouen is setting on a nest of about 8-10 eggs.

I think I would like to get more WH later, but I want to earn the money off what I already have to get them, or get eggs to hatch from Becca when she has them separated out.

And - I think I need to re-think having all these different breeds of geese! lolol

nah, not really. As big and loud as they can be, I love the Geese!! I said Geese, not ganders. Big difference.

We were at TSC this week. All of the Bantams were gone except 2... neither were very healthy looking and their waterers were filled with shavings. They were sooooo tiny!! I haven't been back, but I would be willing to be they didn't make it through the day...that's how bad they looked. :( I was tempted to take them home and mother them to health, :) but TSC would have made us take 6 birds.... :/

I saw an ad for Easter bunnies in the local Free Press this week - $5 per bunny. There was no breed information or a purchase limit posted. I think our friends Paul and Sophia were going to call to see what breeds the bunnies are, as they are looking to expand their rabbitry. I think they have California Whites and New Zealands now.

Good morning, Peeps!

Well, I don't have time to talk too much right now, but I just wanted to drop in and say that last night Becca and I took a road trip to Chillicothe Ohio and I traded my 6 Black Copper Marans chicks that I just bought for 4 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from Justin's line at Blue Poultry.com.

I found the add on CL, and there's a bit of a story there (I almost didn't make the trade) but I'll have to tell ya'll about it later.

Right now, we're waiting on my sons reading teacher to come into their Elluminate session - if she doesn't show up by 10 am (which is when their session is supposed to END) then I'm heading outside to work on breeding pens/organizing birds, and cleaning out the van that we've been using for storage.

Oh and real quick, I am still hoping to have some Black Copper Marans - as Becca just had 3 hatch in her 'bator, and I am planning to buy those from her. With my luck, it will be three roos that hatched, tho! :p

Have a productive day!
