I'm a little peeved with how the day went. We were working on my hoop house for the Cuckoo Marans, when my FIL showed up. Suffice it to say, we didn't get any of the projects done we wanted to because when my FIL shows up he putters around the place looking to see what we've got done. Kind of annoying. Peeves me to the point that I can't focus on the project I'm working on - so I ended up coming in the house and chugging down a pot of coffee.

Quiche :D

I have been selling our duck eggs on craigslist. Lots of 4-h kids need project eggs right now. Hubby is a bit peeved he isn't getting any for breakfast. The quail are laying, but he hates breaking all those tiny little eggs open to get a descent sized omelet. 'Taint manly ya know! :gig

No, the one closest to the waterer is the roo. The mostly red one is a pullet, with some dark blue lacing. She's very typey, but I liked her color and plan to put her under my splash roo to improve the color in my flock.

I'm also thinking she looks so typey - as well as the other three - because they haven't really been fed that well and they're kind of "thinish". The lady had them on turkey feed from day 1. I of course put them straight onto flock raiser. They were also competing with a lot of other birds their size for the feed. I'm sure the lady had close to 50 or more young ones coming up.

I also think they are at that "awkward" stage, where they don't look like they've really grown into their feathers.

They're certainly getting spoiled here, tho. They slept in the coop addition last night where I keep the feed - they had the entire 8x8 room to themselves all night with a gallon waterer and flock raiser. lol and then this morning I put them back out in the on the ground wire pen with fresh water and food.

I am exhausted.

Today was a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong Monday.....

Started off with - yep, you guessed it - a trip to the auction...

I really need to back up and say ....this has been a loooong week - and it's only Monday!

Couple nights a guy who lives about 1/2 mile or so from us came down and said he's having to move, would we take all his poultry - FREE.

Yep, so we took them. Those poor birds were kept in very tight quarters - so tight they couldn't move! They've literally lived their entire lives piled up ontop of each other.

We got about 50 chickens total, and at least 40 of those were silkies and/or silkie mixes.

We finished my hoop house after dark, and tossed all those silkies in it. It took us all of 20 minutes to redneck up that hoop house for silkies.

I was careful about keeping all the new birds away from my current birds - because of the NPIP and of course, regular quarantine. I plan to call Mike out to NPIP test the few silkies I'm keeping.

MOST of the birds went to Auction today. I filled one entire row of the poultry cages:
cage 1: red roo and red ameracauna roo
cage 2: brown leghorn pair
cage 3: two silkie roos
cage 4: Silkie trio
cage 5: silkie quad
cage 6: silkie mix quad
cage 7: blue andalusion/polish crossed pair (roo and hen)
cage 8: 4 mixed breed pullets

Becca also took some things to the auction, but we didn't stay to watch what thing sold for. Check should arrive on Wednesday.

Then it was to TSC and the Drive thru feedstore to pick up feed.

Then we hightailed it to Meyer Hatchery to pick up chicks.

Never go to Meyer hatchery on a Monday!!!! It was long lines, and an hour and a half before we got to leave.

I brought home the following:
5 Welsummers - 2 cockerels 2 pullets
4 Blue Cochins - pullets
8 Black Sumatra - pullets
2 Spitzhauben - pullets
2 Speckled Sussex - cockerels
5 Quail d'Anvers - well, they were supposed to be Quail d'Anvers, but it looks like only 2 are Quail, the other 3 look to be blue?!
and my oldest DS was given a partridge rock pullet chick while we were there.

We also picked up 50 Buff Orps and 50 Rhode Island Reds to sell at our chick days this weekend and 10 Partride Rock for our chick days all pullets.

We almost got hit head on today while going up the expressway, too. It was kind of freaky, and shook us up a little bit. The dude was flying down the 4 lane expressway going south and we were going North - except he was going South IN OUR LANE! He swerved his little car back into the grassy median and as he passed us we heard his car go vvvvrrrrroooooooooooooooooooom!

it was like hearing the cars pass the start/finish line at Talladega or something.

Anyway, it spooked us, but we got home all A Ok and none the worse for wear.
