I live right by Fort Carson. People who move to our area freak out when they feel and hear them practice down range.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

We are used to it and just tell the newbies "It's the sound of freedom baby!"

Can I have a request?

since you are well hatching, moving, selling, bartering exchanging, chicks at basically light speed... would it be possible for you to pick one chick mark the little guy somehow and periodically take photos of him, every say 3 days with a object to have a reference. Couse there are many people asking how big and how much space compared to a normal chicken do they need, this might just answer their question. if they had a chick from day 1 to 4 months or so when they are fully developed. I have to admit that even I would love to see a series of photos like that, if they would be with a wight at that stage when you take the photo, that would be even better IF you have the time and will to do so of course, just asking ;)

I can totally do that!

We have some chicks here now, that I got last week at Meyer Hatchery, that are here as permant residents. I'll pick one, as they are different breeds, and take weekly pics of it, if that'll work.

Plus, I have more day olds coming this week, so how about I choose one of those to do this with, too?

:D

I would totally LOVE to post that on my website as well Quail!

We need to call you Bartering Betty!

The peacocks would be great to have. My aunt used to raise them and really made some money selling the babies!

Ok, so I've been thinking on this, and I realized I have three Spitzhauben chicks that hatched last week, from my own pair of Spitz, and they are a week old today. I took a pic of the three of them all together the day they hatched after they had dried off.

Here they are, only a few hours old:

I have to go send the kids' school assignments from today into their teachers, but when I'm done I'll try to get a pic of the three tonight and post their one week picture.

Do you think photos each week would do? or do you really want photos every 3 days??

I'm liking the idea of this project! I could see doing this with several different breeds! I'll start with the Spitz for now, but I think I'd like to do this with a sumatra chick and maybe some BLRW chicks and ..........

ooops, sorry got carried away there...

Anyway, the local showed up and brought me a Sumatra hen. He wasn't able to catch the other gal, but he's still going to bring her. I am not worried that he won't follow through, because well, I know where he lives...........

Anyhoo...he left as one happy camper with a turkey, a call duck hen (of my choosing), and 2 pairs of silkies.

Personally, I'd have traded for the wood ducks in half a heartbeat. They're $200 birds!
Anyways, I love trading/bartering. I traded button quail in for a 50lb bag of game bird layer, and traded a pair for the cage that my coturnix are in now. One lady had even given me an excellent heat bulb in addition to the regular price on a pair of buttons, simply because she didn't need it (she was expecting chicks, lol). When I list an animal/eggs up for sale, I always put a bit at the bottom of the ad saying that trades are welcome, let me know what you've got! I'll eventually have rabbits, quail, chickens and ducks all breeding for the freezer and to trade/sell.

WOW! You are my hero! I just LOVE a good barter. Let me tell you about a guy my hubby works with. See, he went to Binky's auction the other day...got a 2 yr old mare...4 pigs and a fishing pole for $110.00 I was like WOW! He did GREAT, then hubby finished the story...the guy brought home his treasures...and in an hour, sold the Mare for $100. So, he got 4 pigs and a fishing pole, for $10. Man, I never get THAT lucky!

What cutie patooties. :) Personally I think once a week should be enough for the pics. That way the changes would be more dramatic.
