Happy Birthday UP the Creek!!!

Aly, sounds like your chick adventure is going well. I took a ton of pictures when I went to Bakersville in Mansfield. They had a couple of those fluffy geese you just got as well as some beautiful ducks.

I wish I could have snuck some home.

gina

ps when do you think you will be visiting Mo?

Don't know if we'll visit Missouri this fall or next spring - but I did find out today that the base is close to Springfield, Missouri.

Hi Quail,

My guess:

If he is in the army, probably Fort Leonardwood. Located in the Mark Twain Forest - hence it's nickname - Lost in the Woods. Close to Rolla MO.

In the air force- maybe Whiteman.

Not sure where TanksHill visited. I only was born here in MO! :(

Sounds like good figuring to me. Again near the Lake of the Ozarks, but several hundred miles from my place.

Of course you DO have to travel all of that way and I am only another 169 miles north. ;)

The again maybe I could meet you all at the lake! :D

That's it! Thanks! He's Army, I just have the worst memory on which base is where - because it seems we've had someone in our family at almost every base!

Both of my brothers started out at the base in Georgia, then my brother who's in Germany now. went to Fort Hood in Texas. I had cousins at Fort Carson in Colorado. I have a cousin stationed at the base in Louisiana, one at the base in New York, one coming home from Afghanistan - we're just spread all over.

My grandfather was a WWII vet, and all five of my Uncles followed in his steps and served in the Army. My Uncle Boyd is the only one who made a career out of the Army and retired from it.

My mom was the only oddball - she went into the airforce

Good morning,

The one coming home from Afghanistan, headed to Fort Carson? It would be a funny if your cousin is in the same unit as my son!

No, that is the cousin stationed in New York, I think?

i have another cousin coming home from I don't know where to Ohio - and he can't wait because he gets to hold his new son for the first time.

Fort Drum is in NY. If that is where he was, he wasn't in the safest place in Afghanistan. (not that any place is safe) Fort Drum was usually stationed in the mountains on the border.

That's where he was. Our whole family was on pins and needles and had him shrouded in prayers. We've already lost one in Iraq back in 2007. We don't want to lose another.

So ya'll know I do enjoy a good barter....

and I was given a bunch - and i do mean a bunch - of free silkies........

and I traded 3 Muscovy ducks to BR for 3 bourbon red turkey hens....

anyhoo....last year I had done some horn swaggling with a local and had got my first pair of muscovies, mandarin ducks, a black sumatra pullet (who didn't survive the winter), our gorgeous dog Zoe (who's the best farm dog E V E R), a ton of fencing and posts, and Emmy the mini pony we sold.

We actually turned a profit with some of the stuff we had bartered with him for, which was cool!

Well, that same guy found my CL ad for our farm, and he contacted me. He's still looking for a turkey hen for his tom. And he's looking for a female call duck. He offered 2 Sumatra pullets (they're not a year old yet, they were last summer's hatch, but BOTH are broody right now!) plus the eggs left under one hen (coon got the other nest) for 1 call duck hen and 1 turkey hen.

He said if we'd trade 2 turkey hens and 2 call duck hens, he'd throw in his pair of wood ducks in the trade.

No way was i willing to trade either a pastel or a blue fawn pied, and E was like NO way am I going to trade a turkey hen! and apparantly he wants his turkey's more than he want's wood ducks!

So, I traded my pastels to BeccaOh for her magpies! I'm trading 1 Magpie Duck for 1 Black Sumatra hen. Then E said, "Well, we're going to be hatching, and if we can sell some poults to buy another turkey hen ..." so we're trading 1 call hen, 1 turkey hen for two black sumatras! whoot!

My Jett is going to be sooo happy!!!

So then he asks me about my silkies. I told him I only planned to keep 1 roo and 4 girls, leaving 12 silkies to find a home. He says, "Would you take 3 peacock eggs for a pair of silkies?"

um - YEA!!!!

this morning he said he might like a second pair of silkies, so I think the deal is going to be 4 peacock eggs for 2 pairs of silkies - which I'm OK with!

and E was like "Get those peacock eggs! if they hatch, sell 'em!" (we know what Becca sold hers for last year, and I think that's what he was thinking of!)

so, they're supposed to be here sometime today to do all this swapping and horn swaggling!

I'm so excited!!
