I grabbed the ducktape and threatened him. He's back to behaving and staying in his recliner now.
I LOVE DUCT TAPE!!! :gig
Yea, well, I'm allowed a typo now and then. I've been dealing with a bossy man! He can't get UP and do anything, but his lips sure flap a mile a minute!

My parents came over today and brought us a truck load of firewood! That was just awesome as we were almost out of wood.

Then we had spaghetti dinner together. Yummo!

No, the words aren't for public posting... but the tune is a good one for getting stuff done around the farm! :D

I set 35 mutt eggs in the 'bator today. Had 36 but I accidentally broke one. The others are all warming in the 'bator now. :D

It's been a chicken focused day around here. Dh I think has finally realized how serious I am about the chickens. Funny, it took putting him flat on his back for him to realize it. Today, since he can't really do anything else, he drew out plans for the add on to my existing coop. I was pleased with his ideas, so I did them up on paint. Now, I don't have the measurements exactly to scale, but I did label everything, so this will give ya'll an idea of what my coop will soon look like.

These are the plans for just the building part. The small rectangle to the right in the hallway part is to represent our deep freezer that has croaked. We will be using it to store chicken feed in.

These are the plans with the outdoor runs added, showing where the chickens will exit/enter and where I want to have gates in the run areas themselves for human access.

I really can't wait until we get these done! I told DH I can use the grower pen as a temporary breeder coop until I have chicks old enough for the grow out coop. :) I think, since DH is on bedrest, my mom and my brother will be coming to help me build out and finish this.

If we manage to get this done, it will be a real blessing. It will enable me to hatch chicks, and not have to keep them in the house! Which will make DH happy! :) I am so excited for the coop plans and can't wait until we can start hammering nails!!

ETA: The layer coop is the part that is already built. I have the BO's, SS, and LB's in there now. The new part will be wired for electric so I can hang heat lamps in the brooder area.

QA - do you mean I have to duct tape my DH to his recliner to make him see I am serious about my chicken raising? DH will probably like that approach much better than the iron skillet upside the head. LOL

Love your plans. I know you will be happy to see those come to life.

Mine is supposed to be on bedrest, and I had to threaten duct tape to keep him there! He likes to be busy!

I think his not being able to escape my chicken chatter is what made him realize it. So yea, maybe try duct taping your husband! LOL

More or less, it looks like my husband will not be able to work outside of the home, so he's all for diving into my chickens with me as a serious source of income. We don't need to make a lot off them, just enough to make our monthly bills, but the goal is to be selling chicks and hatching eggs for profit by the end of 2009.

Thanks for the compliment. E keeps teasing and telling me that's my new house I'll be moving into (though I am not opposed to having a bunk in the coop LOL).

Quail,

Your plans look really great! Your DH did a good job. Good idea about repurposing the freezer.

How is your hubby's pain? I hope it is better.

Hubby's pain hasn't increased/decreased per say, and the pain meds don't take care of it entirely, but does take the edge off some so it's tolerable.

He has a Dr. appt tomorrow morning. Since this is now affecting his bathroom abilities, they are going to see about calling in something to the pharmacy today. MRI sometime this week, if the insurance approves it. They have sent off for the approval already. They are talking back surgery at this point. Just not sure when.

I found my female mallard, Karen, near death this morning. I'm trying to keep her warm, but I am not sure she's going to pull out of it this time.
