Last Thursday, first full day home with Baby Girl, my three year old son saw mom nursing a baby for the first time. The conversation went as follows:

3 yr old: why is the baby sucking on your boob, mommy?
me: after staring at him in wide eyed shock and after asking E how'd he know to call it a boob??? That's how our baby eats.
3 yr old: Oh. She's eating your boob?
me: no, she's drinking milk.
3 yr old, in an awed tone: oh she's drinking milk?!

later on that day, when the kids came home from school, 3 yr old son sits on the couch next to his daddy and big sis, who was getting a turn holding her new sister, and says to her: The baby drinks milk from Mommy's boob!

:th

He's also told Grandma and Grandpa.

He also now obsessed with babies, and has "adopted" 2 handkerchiefs as his "babies". I'm thinking we may get him a baby for xmas - don't laugh, I think boys playing with a baby doll is good practice for being a dad.
I know we don't know one another and you don't need my approval ... but I certainly do approve. I am happy to hear you are breastfeeding. I am delighted to hear your son gets to see you breastfeed (he will be more likely to support the idea when he has kids of his own) I am thrilled that you understand that he will be a better father if he gets a chance to practice on his doll. You sound like a great person to have as a momma. Congrats on your new baby! Kelly

Thank you :)

I nursed all of my children. My first two didn't breastfeed as long as I had wanted to, do to things beyond my control, but my younger three boys nursed for the first year. I hope to nurse baby girl for a full year, too. I usually start weaning to a cup around 1 year. I used to wean to a sip cup, but that proved more frustrating to get them to switch to a regular cup, so we just go straight to a cup. We start out by giving careful sips (small sips) from mom's cup. Works pretty well for us.

My brothers played house with me, and played with my dolls and wrapped them up in blankets, etc. Both of my brothers are awesome dad's now. :)

I breastfed my girls (now ages 27, 25 & 23) for an extended period. My sons I didn't do as well with (they are 5 & 6) since I was working full time. But those are definitely the best years I had with them. And we are all still so very, very close.
My mom breastfed all my younger siblings and I watched her...hence my strong belief that I could successfully breastfeed. So I strongly believe that watching your mother breastfeed is a good thing.

:hugs - very gently :) :woot on the baby! those pics are cute but I love the smiling one! I have a pic around here somewhere from when I was less than a year old. It looks like I'm wearing a yellow dress on first glance until you realize that it's actually yellow coveralls :) I played with stuffed animals and my sisters and their dolls when I was growing up. It was fun :) And, playing with my younger sisters is probably why I'm as good with "my" kids as I am :D You continue letting him play with whatever he wants, it's good to be well rounded :)

Thank you :)

So yesterday was a really bad day. Really bad day.

Started with my mom spanking my youngest son repeatedly without my permission, and I have no clue what he had done to deserve a spanking?? but she had him pinned down across her lap and was telling him to stop it and then I heard smack smack smack smack and it was obviously on bare skin. This had repeated 3 times by the time I had got up, laid the baby down, and got to the bedroom. I was really really really ticked off. She knew it, too, but told me I need to break my child's will or we'd have problems with him later.

When I told my husband about it after mom left, he about had a coronary.

and my evening got worse. All I'll say about that is I'm tired of being blamed for other people's drama.

Oh and while my mom was here, the cow got out! That went down like this:

So the boys come in the house screaming, "Blessing is out! Baby Boy is out there!" C-section or not, I leaped outta my chair and ran across the livingroom and screamed for the boys to go get their brother. I get out there (E was already on his way to get her back in the pasture) and DD has Baby Boy by the hand saying, "Run, Blessing is coming!" I yell, "Pick him up and RUN!" as Blessing is leaping across the yard-this is our 650 lb PET heifer, folks. (E has since corrected me and said she's more like 800 lbs) She really IS a big baby - but just a couple weeks ago she smashed her head into E's and busted blood vessles in his right eye. And the kids know it. By the time the kids were all in the house, E had used the feed bucket to lure her back into the fence.

BTW - it was Ernie's fault. He forgot to latch the gate!!

Afterwards, E told me when he got back from closing and LATCHING the gate, he saw the kids hiding behind the house with just their heads peeking around the corner to see if the coast was clear.

That sucks. :hugs I went through a similar situation with my father-in-law spanking my son. It caused some tension between my husband and me. I don't think it should be about "breaking" a childs will, rather "shaping" a child's will.
