Well, it was going alright, and not that bad until this evening.

All I will say is I do NOT like being lied about or to, and once a person does either, I wish to have no dealings or associate with the individual that did so.

Oh no, I hope everything gets better for you....oh, and I just showed my husband your website and he couldn't believe how many different types of animals you had! He loves the cow pics and now he says he wants cows too! Oh, and he loves the turkeys!!! You sure do have some beautiful birds...how's everything going with the chicks? Have you gotten any leads from craigslist?

Oh things are much better. ;) It just amazes me that people think they can twist the truth and convince other people that lies are the truth. I'll never be able to comprehend that.

Yes, I've recieved several emails for the chicks since putting them on CL.

One guy was willing to take them all if I dropped the price. Plus he wanted me to meet him an hour away with the chicks. I refused. One, I won't lower my price, and especially not if I have to deliver them!

I have a lady who wants to come either today or Sunday to get about 30 of the RIR's. I am hoping she does!

Another email came this morning from someone who is new to chickens and had lots of questions. Said she wants a few for eggs and a few for meat, so I think she might come get some, too!

Did you order your RIR as straight run?

Last year when I needed to replace my City Biddy hens I ordered a full order of 25 chicks instead of just the 4 or 5 I would need as replacements. I ordered sexed pullets and also "fancy" breeds, like Marans, Ameraucana, Faverolle, in addition to some sex-link layers. I only kept them about two weeks and then the extras quickly sold. I made enough money to pay for all the chicks and feed for about a month, so basically got my replacements for free.

I wish I had more space to do this kind of thing. It was amazing the demand for small lots of really nice pullets.

We have an small animal auction near us as well, but I had never thought about taking surplus birds there. I think your whole chick "venture" sounds like a winner!

I hope you are feeling better about your lying problem today. Don't let other peoples hatefulness bring you down.

Morning, FarmFresh!

I'm feeling much better today. I'm just letting it roll off. No worries! :)

Yes, I ordered the RIR's as straight run. I think the next time I order in some chicks, I'll order in all pullets. I think those would sell much quicker than these straight run.

Okay, forgive me, but what is straight run? I've never ordered chicks before...only had chickens for less than a year and they were all a couple of months old when I got them.

Glad you're feeling better, QA!

Lori, a Straight Run means you get the chicks as they are hatched - male or female - you take it. So you could end up with 50/50 male/female or some variation, depending on the hatch.

Other choices would be to order all cockerels or to order all pullets. Or to order a set number of males and females.

One of my local friends got a straight run last spring and ended up with 35 cockerels and 15 pullets out of her 50 chicks. :th

eta: That same friend got 24 hatching eggs from an auction last spring and ended up with 18 males and 6 females. So maybe last year was a Male Year.. :D

QA - around here the feedstores won't purchase birds until you pay in full up front. Maybe that would be the way to go next year.

Yup, that's how I plan to do it from here out!

I figure it is all going to work out one way or the other. Maybe God isn't letting me sell them. Maybe I have about 50 pullets in this mix, and I did say I wanted close to 100 brown egg layers by next year!
