It must be that I am supposed to have RIR's in my mix. DH and DD both love them, and my SIL who's coming to stay loves them, too. DH and I told her we'll give her a roo and a few hens to start her flock with. She said RIR's are her favorite breed.

Supposed to get up to 55 today! :ya

I have a lady coming this morning to buy 10 of the RIR chicks. That will leave me with a dozen or so not sold yet, and we've decided to keep those.

I picked up our onion sets the other day. Four pounds of onions! I don't think it's enough, but it's a start. I am hoping we have enough onions planted this year to sell some.

Also hope our green beans do well enough this year that we can have enough for ourselves and to sell as well. We won't frequent any Farmer's Markets, as road side produce stands seem to do much better up here.

We still need to get our potatoes and DH wants to pick up tomato and pepper plants. I want to start them from seeds, DH has never had a good time at starting tomatoes and peppers from seeds. We will probably get them from the same people we purchased from last year. It's a local greenhouse, and their prices aren't bad, and we'd rather give our business to local businesses when we can. Plus, these people were super nice last year!

Okay, so now you know why the "sale chicks" didn't all sell - SIL needed some. ;)

We harvested 3 pounds of onions last autumn and we ran out in January. There are only 2 of us, but we obviously eat more onions than I thought. :)

The last few years my tomatoes and peppers were started from seed and I had pretty good luck with heirloom varieties. But we also have a friend who has a local greenhouse. Her plants are always healthy and, while not certified organic, she does raise livestock and garden organically, so we like to do business with her. It is a real plus that she is just a few miles away.

Year 1 and 2 we had excellent results and harvests.

Year 3 the cat, who never showed any interest in the plants before, decided 3 weeks before they were to go into the garden, that they were fun to dig up. I ended up with 2 tomato plants out of 30 and none of the pepper plants survived. We went to a friend's greenhouse and got replacement plants for 69 cents a piece. They weren't as large as my plants were, but they were the same heirloom varieties.

Year 4 I actually got the tomatoes and peppers planted and then we got so much rain last spring that most of them did not recover. We got some additional plants from our friend for 89 cents each. Since it was later in the season, the plants were larger.

Two more chicks hatched from my own flocks eggs!! One is a Buff Orp and the other I think is either a Gold Phoenix Cross or a Silver Duckwing OEG. Will have to let it grow up to find out!

And two more of my own eggs are pipped!!!
