Today we made a rare trip to Walmart. Haven't been there in awhile. We did a good bit of "window" shopping. Even browsed the jewelry counter, which was a hoot! The lady working asked if we'd like to see something, so I said sure! ROTFL I tried on this gorgeous Marquis Diamond ring with baquettes on either side....sigh..so beautiful...ROTFL but soooooo not practical for farm life (and expensive!) Told the lady thank you, but no thank you, and moved on.

We picked up some seed potatoes in the garden center and the kids each decided to choose a vegetable seed for their garden. They are really excited about planting their own garden this year. It will be their first garden of their own, and for now will only be 4 rows. They are going to plant green beans, carrots, peas, and tomatoes. Last year they planted a watermelon patch and will be doing that and a pumpkin patch this year as well.

Left Walmart and when we got home everyone (animals) needed their waterers refilled. We got that chore done and then I rototilled the garden. It was the first tilling, need to rake it and do the second tilling, and then I think we'll be ready to start planting soon. :fl This is the first year that I have done the rototilling, so I was pretty pleased with myself.

The kids were wanting to plant their seeds today :gig We told them they would have to hold off a bit.

We had a light dinner and then went off to mom's to get a shower. I would have to say the shower was the highlight of my day.

It hit a high of 70 here today and I collected five whole eggs WHOOHOOO Sure hope I get back up to the dozen a day I was getting.

Well, I think we had a good day, and now I'm off to bed. I'll see ya'll tomorrow!

Lucky you to get your garden tilled already! We have had Sooooooo much rain, there is no way to get the tiller in there. Time is slipping away too! Darn it all!

justus - I am thinking about going no till this year - at least on my early stuff - for the same reason.

It will be OK in my garden to plant my potato and onion sets, but if I tried to till right now I would end up with giant clods. Or mud pudding.

I am just going to plant the sets and then give them a good mulching over top with straw.

I am envious - our high was 40 all day, then after 9 pm, it got up to 50!

Sounds like you had a great day!

Had another good day. :)

I have half the garden raked and second tilling done. Hope the weather is still nice enough so I can get the other half of the garden done tomorrow.

Pulled out my seeds today and sorted out my cold crops, the ones I want to plant for now anyway. Some of the cold crops I won't put out until late summer for a fall harvest.

Collected 4 eggs today. All 4 were laid early this morning! I was surprised.

I sold six chicks today, and I gave the couple buying them 2 chicks free to up their chances of having hens in the mix. So they paid for six but left with 8. It felt good, too because they thought that was super nice of me and they said they would definitely tell their friends that I was selling chicks

Oh I'm not planting anything yet!! Just working my bum off getting the ground ready, that's all. The tiller is borrowed from FIL and he managed to get his tail in a knot for reasons only known to him, and we expect him to be down to take back anything we've borrowed. So we're trying to make sure we don't need anything we've borrowed from him by making sure we complete all the jobs we need the borrowed tools for, including the tiller.

First tilling down, half of second tilling done, worse comes to worse, I'll finish it by hand! ;)

I'm in a super good mood today. I love it when spring fever hits me. I feel hyper, and so full of energy!!

OH and this weekend, I'm getting my hands on a trio of Welsummers!!!!! They will be a year old on June 9, both hens are laying, and they're offspring from proven show champions!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited....not that I plan to do any showing, but I figure when it comes down to selling eggs from them, that would be a good selling point for eggs, right? She did warn me, though, that the roo's wattles were dubbed off due to frost bite last winter, but that's OK. She dropped the price on him due to the dubbing. I'm paying through the nose for the hens, but IMO it's far cheaper than the asanine amounts I've put out for eggs that didn't hatch. :hide

Oh something yesterday I forgot to mention..my new rabbits apparantly definitely were bred, as one of the females gave birth to five babies. We came home from Walmart and when we had checked on water and feed, found five dead babies in the rabbit cage. :( I am not sure if it was from the stress of being moved to a new environment, or the fact that all 3 rabbits were in the same hutch, or a combination of both. Either way, no babies for Easter this year. We did a quick fix for now so that I could separate the rabbits so I can control any future breedings.

The upside is I am not out anything with the loss of those five babies.

Aly, I would hasten to add some nest boxes to your doe's pens ASAP if you aren't sure if they've been bred. No nest boxes, the move, the other rabbits....all contribute to this kind of thingy.

You may have more little ones on the way! :weee

Oh yes, I fixed her up a quick box, and filled it with some bedding. I'm hoping the second female does Ok if she's preggers, too. She's a proven breeder, and supposed to be a good mom.
