Oh honey, that would be great! You could drive them out of business and then she'll get hers! I agree with everyone else though, I wouldn't touch that place with a ten foot pole for a while! :hugs

We have been talking about it. We just don't want to jump into it real quick and then regret the decision. I mean, the economy is going to pot fast, and we don't want to do something that is going to hurt us in the long run.

DH said he'd like to run a place where the local farmers can bring their own feed and have it ground up. This other feedstore doesn't offer that service. But we've not set down and drafted a business plan yet. We've talked plenty, but talking and doing are two different things. It's a big decision to make, too, with us having our hobby farm to manage and the kids. I just want to be sure it would be the right thing, ya know?

I did get to go to Meyers with my friend today. She was picking up her started pullets. WHY OH WHY do I go there??????? They gave us turkeys, ok well we bought a couple turkeys, and they discounted them for us and then threw in 5 more turkeys free....UGH! So I came home with 10 turkey poults LOL Eight Bourbon Reds and 2 Blue Slates.

They also gave me a Salmon Faverolle Cockerel, free, because it's iffy on whether or not he will make it. They gave me a box with a heat pack, which normally heat packs are $12, but they gave me one. Brought him home, and now I'm working with him to get him going good. He was a special order, but then the people didn't show up to pick him up. Worked out for me, as who can turn away a free chick???

I also brought home 3 baby rabbits.......LOLOL 2 girls and a boy....I thought DH would have a cow, but he saw they were babies and he was OK with it LOL He asked what I was going to do with them....I said, "Future food?" (ok, not these, but maybe their offspring....)

Maybe you should have stayed in the car! :gig
I should have!! But when they offered turkeys to me for free....:/

Really I had only gone up there to get measurements for that new coop I'm trying to build........

OH that's another thing, my friend is giving me lots of pallets and pallet tops that I can break down and build into chicken tractors!! No more buying lumber for me!!

If you DO decide to go for it, I would like to suggest a coffee counter, where the guys can hang out for a while and talk farming...just a table or two, or bar stools, etc...guys need their own place and I think you could draw some regular customers...

Oh yes! Sell some muffins or doughnuts to go with the coffee or have a checker/chess table and you will have a winner for sure!

Also a BIG public notices board.

Ya'll are cracking me up!

I've already sold 3 of the turkeys! :celebrate

I think the idea of a place for the farmers to talk is a great one! And I could probably bake the goodies myself, instead of buying them!!

I could probably hatch all my own poultry to sell at the store, too, in the spring!

Oh ya'll got my wheels spinning now!

The mill near us has one of those pot belly type wood stoves that they keep cranked during winter. Some of the ol' timers play checkers, shoot the breeze, and visit with the customers. :D
